Sam’s verdict

Bettabets wasted no time in ticking many of my boxes, with its large and varied 2,130+ strong games collection, two-part welcome bonus including both a deposit match and no wager free spins, and efficient live chat support. With numerous local payment options and hundreds of popular slots also available, it feels firmly tailored to South African players, although I did miss having a casino app and more detailed game search options at my disposal.

Two-part welcome bonus with low 8x wagering

Sam Pearce - Content Editor

“As a slots fan, I immediately appreciated getting 50 no wager free spins on Big Bass Splash with my first deposit, particularly as the game has an above-average RTP of 96.71% and high volatility. The below average 8x playthrough rules for the bonus funds cemented the package’s generosity in my eyes, and I felt there was noticeable variety among the frequent regular promos. However, after the Bettabets welcome bonus, there were disappointingly scarce chances to get boosted deposits.”

Pros

  • Lower wagering requirements (8x) than Jackpot City and PantherBet
  • Can use 100% deposit match across the entire games library
  • 50 no wager free spins (twice the number offered by Easybet)
  • Bonuses can be claimed using any of casino’s 10 supported deposit options
  • Weekly cashback of up to R3,000 available via bxclusiv loyalty scheme

Cons

  • Welcome package only applies to first deposit (unlike Mzansibet)
  • Somewhat low maximum cashout cap of just R10,000
  • Limited opportunities for deposit matches across regular promos

Enjoy 2,130+ games from over 20 providers

“With over 2,100 games available, Bettabets offers a larger selection than most other casinos I’ve reviewed, including PantherBet and Jabula Bets (both 800+) combined. You’ll find the latest titles from several leading studios including Pragmatic Play, Red Tiger and NetEnt, as well as various search tools to explore the collection and the option to save your favourites, which often proved useful.”

Most played games at Bettabets

Slots take up the majority of the Bettabets library with 1,800+ reel spinners to choose from. These include many of the most popular titles with SA gamblers, namely Gates of Olympus Super Scatter, 777 Strike and Jelly Express. There’s equally no shortage of high RTP slots, with the casino’s overall 97.64% average RTP comparable to our top-rated high payout casinos.

Other games to check out

Bettabets has an extensive live dealer platform predominantly sourced from Evolution and including over 20 game shows. However, outside of these the options are listed alongside RNG table offerings, which can make it avoidably difficult to navigate. The casino also has seven crash games with instant play tabs for both Aviator and Skypilot, and a specific cashback bonus for the latter at the time of our review. If you’re looking for more niche offerings, there’s a small number of titles for the likes of video poker, keno, Plinko and sic bo, although these could only be found by searching directly.

Average number of payment options, but lacking variety

Sam Pearce - Content Editor

“I had 10 payment methods to choose from at Bettabets, which I’d rate as a standard quantity among top SA casino sites. After making R20 deposits with 1Voucher, Ozow and Visa, the casino quickly stood out as a great option for budget players, although there is room to lower the R300 minimum withdrawal for certain EFT methods. The 24 to 48-hour cashout time is respectable if unspectacular, but I only had to wait until the next day for my account verification documents to be approved beforehand.”

What I like about the payment options

  • Accepts 10 payment options in total (double the number at Jackpot City)
  • Low minimum deposits of R10 to R20 for all non-EFT options
  • Permits several local methods including 1Voucher, Ozow and Zapper

What I felt could be improved

  • Doesn’t support any crypto, mobile or e-wallet options for deposits and withdrawals
  • EFT deposits are only processed between 8:30am and 4:30pm
  • Slower cashouts than top fast withdrawal casinos like YesPlay and PantherBet

Fully licensed casino in SA with responsible gambling focus

sam-pearce-author-photo
Sam Pearce - Content Editor

“Bettabets is licensed by the Mpumalanga Economic Regulator (MER), which also licenses SA online casinos including Betway and 10bet. It uses 128-bit SSL encryption to protect your money and data, and the T&Cs mention that games are independently audited for RNG fairness, although I couldn’t verify by which company. I was given the option to self-exclude from my account via customer support and access a responsible gambling hub with various resources.”

Solid browser-led mobile platform with low data mode

sam-pearce-author-photo
Sam Pearce - Content Editor

“Bettabets doesn’t currently offer an app, unlike PantherBet and Jackpot City. However, the smartphone site for both iPhone and Android hosts the full range of 2,130+ desktop games, which I could also helpfully play in low data mode when not connected to wi-fi. The mobile platform is easy to navigate with well-designed menus that load games quickly, although it could be improved by allowing you to deposit with the likes of Apple Pay and Google Pay.”

What is Bettabets’ low data mode on mobile?

“The low data mode you can use at Bettabets is designed to reduce your mobile data usage while playing, by loading games and thumbnails faster with lower quality graphics. You can turn it on and off via the toggle next to ‘Game Categories’ near the top of games pages on the smartphone site.”

Extensive customer support overseen by reliable agents

“I was impressed by Bettabets’ round-the-clock live chat, which I could use even when I wasn’t even logged in and never took longer than a few minutes to connect me to an agent. When ringing the helpline and e-mailing I had to wait up to an hour to get an answer, but my queries about the welcome bonus and deposit options were met with helpfully detailed responses. The FAQs could be expanded, as these only cover a dozen questions with fairly basic answers.”
