The first major golf tournament of the golf season is almost upon us, as once again, the best golfers in the world will descend on Augusta National, Georgia, to compete in The Masters.

There’s something special about The Masters, as it’s the only major golf tournament held at the same course each year. It’s also the only invitational event and sees its winner win the iconic green jacket.

Regardless of the reasons, the competition has been a fixture on golf majors tours since 1934 and is beloved by many fans. It’s also beloved by players for its famous layout and pristine condition. It’s also the first chance of the year to compete for a major championship and sets the pace for golf bets.

The competition for the 2025 edition will be as fierce as ever, with previous winners and up-and-coming stars all competing to put on that green jacket. But who will win? Find out more about the betting favorites in our complete guide to golf predictions for the 2025 Masters.

How The Masters Work?

Before betting on the Masters, you’ll want to familiarize yourself with how the competition works. That will make it much more fun to follow along, and hope your chosen golfer can navigate the greens and roughs of Augusta National Golf Club.

The 2025 Masters will start on April 10 and consist of four rounds of 18 holes. The field is split into groups of three for the first 36 holes. After these 36 holes, a cutoff score is established, which all players must meet to progress to the final two rounds. Effectively, the top 50 players will progress, although ties may allow more players to continue.

Those who do progress play another 36 holes, with the winner being the golfer who walks away with the lowest score.

Each golfer plays a round of 18 holes each day, so the competition runs from Thursday to Sunday. Weather delays and issues can impact the number of holes and days of competition.

Top 10 Golfers with the Best Odds to Win The Masters

The Masters has thrown up plenty of shocks in the past. There were significant shocks as recently as 2021 with Hideki Matsuyma’s win, which was priced at +6000 with some sportsbooks. Meanwhile, from 2007 to 2009, no player had odds lower than +12500.

The list of improbable wins continues with Bubba Watson in 2012, Danny Willet in 2016, and Patrick Reed in 2018, all with odds over +4000.

That pattern has calmed in recent years, with Dustin Johnson winning at +850 in 2020, Scottie Scheffler claiming a win at +1600 in 2022, and Jon Rahm at +900 in 2023 before Scheffler brought the odds right down to +450 with his second Masters win in 2024.

So, even though everyone loves an underdog, knowing the favorites is essential research before you place any bets. We’ve collated the top ten favorites to win the competition and provided an overview of the golf betting lines for each player below.

Scottie Scheffler

The current world number one who has held the title for 97 consecutive weeks, the third longest stint of all time, Scheffler will be a hard man to beat on the Augusta National greens. That’s because he’s been there and done it all before, winning two of the past three Masters. He triumphed over other favorites for the 2025 competition in his two previous victories.

He’s not in the best form, with tied third at the Genesis Open, his best result on the LIV Golf circuit in 2025. However, he’s still the betting favorite with golf betting experts giving him odds around +460 to become the first man to win back-to-back Masters since Tiger Woods in 2002.

Rory McIlroy

Amazingly, Rory McIlroy has been one of the best golfers on the planet for the best part of a decade, but he hasn’t won a major since his triumph at the PGA Championship in August 2014. Ending ten years of hurt at Augusta would be even sweeter as it’s the only major the Northern Irishman has yet to win.

McIlroy’s been close to completing a career grand slam before, falling just three strokes behind Scheffler in 2022. McIlory has been in fine form in the buildup to the competition, winning The Players by playoff and claiming victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The golf betting market has him at around +650 to finally get invited to the Champions Dinner.

There’s a significant gap in the odds between McIlroy and the next closest competitor, so sportsbooks think it will be a shoot-out between top two ranked players globally.

Ludvig Åberg

At just 25 years old, Åberg represents the younger star among many of these favorites. However, the Swedish golfer has plenty of experience. Even though he turned professional in 2023, Åberg has competed for the Masters before, scoring 2nd at the 2024 Masters behind Scheffler.

He picked up a win at the Genesis Open to collect his second PGA Tour victory in February and could be the man to walk away with it all in Georgia. His odds sit around +1200.

Jon Rahm

A two-time majors winner, Jon Rahm, broke away from a pack featuring two-time winner Phil Mickelson to claim the 2023 Masters. In LIV Tournaments, Rahm has finished tied second, sixth, tied sixth, and tied fifth. That might give him the most consistent results in the build-up to the competition, but it’s hard to compare the quality of the LIV with the PGA Tour.

The powerfully hitting Spaniard is nicknamed “Rahmbo” and is known for occasionally losing his temper. He’ll need to keep a cool head to topple the favorites and claim a green jacket for a second time, with odds around +1400.

Collin Morikawa

Another two-time major winner, Morikawa, has seen glory at the PGA Championship and The Open Championship, but his best result at The Masters was third in 2024. The American came second in The Sentry to start the year before finishing second again in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

While he’s been playing well, Morikawa hopes to avoid the “always the bridesmaid, never the bride” pattern he’s followed in 2025 and has odds at around +1400 to add a win at The Masters to his majors collection.

Xander Schauffele

There’s a pattern forming with these favorites, as Xander Schauffle is another two-time major winner. 2024 was a huge year for Schauffele, with the American claiming The Open Championship and the PGA Championship. A coaching change from his father, Stefan, to Chris Como in the 2024 season seemed to pay off.

However, it’s been several years since Schauffele has seriously threatened at The Masters, not matching his second-place performance in 2019. Sure, he finished eight in 2024, but with a score of -1, he was ten shots off the triumphant Scheffler. Schauffele must bring his 2024 form into 2025 to win at odds of +1600.

Bryson DeChambeau

Known as “The Scientist,” DeChambeau is famed for playing with clubs with specific designs, including thicker grips and irons that are all the same length. He’ll need to put that scientific mind to work to win The Masters, a competition where his best result was joint sixth in 2024.

DeChambeau joins other favorites that have won two majors in the past, claiming the 2020 and 2024 U.S. Open. 2024 was a pretty successful year for the American, who achieved his best result at The Masters and finished just one shot behind Schauffele in the PGA Championship along with his U.S. Open victory. Can he bring that to Augusta and overcome +1800 odds to win?

Justin Thomas

Can you guess how many majors Thomas has won? That’s right! The two-time major winner won both the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2022. Thomas’ best finish at The Masters was in 2020 when he finished fourth with a score of -12. That would have been enough to tie Rahm for a win in 2023.

However, Thomas has had a rough time recently, with his last PGA Tour win coming in his 2022 PGA Championship victory. He’s placed second in two tournaments in 2025, so he will be hoping he’s building back to his best. He’s at about +2000 to win.

Hideki Matsuyama

Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama couldn’t have started the year much better, winning The Sentry by three shots. His form since then has been much shakier, with tied 13th as his next best result, but there’s still a lot to like about his game coming into The Masters.

For starters, he knows what it takes to win at Augusta after claiming a green jacket at the 2021 edition of the tournament. With that experience in his belt, he may overcome his +2500 odds and win. He held off Will Zalatoris despite an error-strewn final day where he finished +1 in that competition.

Victor Hovland

Norwegian golfer Victor Hovland has never won a major, but he’s hoping to change that at The Masters. His best performance was tied seventh at the 2023 competition. So, what makes him one of the favorites for the 2025 competition?

Hovland played some fantastic golf, holding off Justin Thomas at the Valspar Championship in March to win. However, he didn’t make the cut at the Genesis Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, or The Players. He’s a bit of a longshot, but past impressive performances like the Valspar Championship show, he has the talent to claim a green jacket. His odds are around +2800.

Masters Golf Betting Strategies

Betting on the Masters can be exhilarating, given the prestige and unpredictability of the tournament. As the first major of the golf season, the Masters draws a lot of attention from both seasoned bettors and newcomers. If you’re looking to place bets on this iconic event, here are some strategies to consider:

1. Study Course History

Augusta National Golf Club, the permanent home of the Masters, is known for its unique and challenging layout, and being the biggest golf majors. Past performance at Augusta can be a strong indicator of future success. Look for golfers with a proven track record at the Masters, as familiarity with the course often breeds confidence and success.

2. Consider Recent Form

A golfer’s recent performance is a crucial factor. Players who are in good form in the golf rankings leading up to the Masters may continue that momentum into the tournament. Analyze finishes in recent tournaments, scoring averages, and any notable improvements in specific areas such as driving accuracy or putting.

3. Age and Experience Matter

While the Masters has seen its fair share of youthful winners, experience at Augusta can be a distinct advantage. Historically, winners have often been seasoned players who understand the nuances of the course. However, note that recent trends have skewed towards golfers under 40 indicating a mix of youth and experience could be ideal.

4. Weather Conditions

Weather can significantly impact play at Augusta. Be sure to check the weather forecast during the tournament. Wet conditions can make the golf courses play longer and favor long hitters, while dry, windy conditions might benefit those with exceptional control and short game prowess.

5. Monitor Line Movements and Betting Odds

Understanding betting odds is crucial, especially for the Masters which attract a large betting volume. Keep an eye on line movements as they can indicate where the public money is trending or if there is sharp money on a particular player. Utilize trusted platforms like Covers to find the best odds across reputable sportsbooks.

6. Look for Prop Bets and Matchups

While betting on an outright winner is the most popular option, there are other ways to wager. Top finisher bets (top 5, top 10, etc.) can offer a safer alternative with decent returns. Head-to-head matchups allow you to bet on a golfer to perform better than another, irrespective of their overall tournament finish.

7. Consider Historical Trends

Review historical trends such as the lack of repeat champions or the age of recent winners. These trends can provide valuable insights and help identify potential value bets. For instance, noting that no one has repeated as a champion since Tiger Woods may steer you away from betting on the previous year’s winner.

Making the Most of Your Masters Bets

Betting on the Masters requires a balanced approach that considers both statistical analysis and historical context. By employing these strategies, you can enhance your chances of making informed and potentially profitable bets. Remember, as a golf fan, while betting should be fun, it’s important to bet responsibly and within your limits.
