How we rate NZ casinos

How We Rate The Best Online Casinos

Security, licensing and trust

The first thing we check is that an online casino is completely safe and trustworthy. If a site can’t be relied upon to fully protect your money and personal information while hosting unrigged games, then you won’t see it featured in our toplist.

Games and software

When assessing a casino's game library, we look at its size, variety and overall quality. We combine these results to calculate its overall game rating. The average New Zealand casino offers between 1,000 and 2,000 games from 40-60 software providers, and we compare each new casino we review to the market average.

Bonuses and promotions

We look beyond the headline value of any casino bonus and assess the real cash-out potential. The best performers make it onto our list of the best casino bonuses. Read on for the key areas we look at to assess offers:

Banking, deposits and payouts

The deposit and, more importantly, the withdrawal process can make or break your experience with a casino. That's why we make deposits and withdrawals with different payment methods to test the payout speed, transaction limits and verification process. Those results feed into our overall casino rating across the following key areas:

Customer care and support

We look at how well a casino protects and supports its players, including responsible gambling tools, data protection and customer service. We take a hands-on approach, utilising responsible gambling tools, contacting customer support and factoring the results into our overall rating.

Mobile platform

While apps are rare amongst New Zealand casinos, the majority of Kiwis want to play on their phone or tablet. That's why we test the performance of every casino across multiple devices, including an iPhone 12 and Samsung Galaxy Tab. We play on mobile browsers or on the app, if available, with a focus on the following areas:

What happens when we don’t approve a casino we’ve reviewed?

Not all of our casino reviews result in us recommending a site. There are various reasons why this happens. A site either falls short in a number of the categories listed above or is significantly poor in just one or two.If, in the process of writing a casino review, we feel the site is firmly unsafe or untrustworthy and poses a risk to Kiwi gamblers, we'll add it to our blacklist. This list is constantly updated with sites where our team of experts have encountered major issues, such as:
  • Unprofessional or unresponsive customer support
  • Extremely long or indefinite withdrawal delays
  • Misleading licensing claims
  • Accounts locked without reasonable explanation
Casinos have been added to our blacklist after players got in touch to notify us about a site, and we then do our own research. If you find an NZ casino that you don't think is legit, let us know and we can investigate. That way we protect you and other online casino players.
