Welcome Sign Gets Colorful Lights for Las Vegas Pride

The famed “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign is currently decked out in a rainbow of colorful bulbs. The bulbs represent the colors in the LGBT flag, and the eye-catching display coincides with Las Vegas Pride, a celebration supporting the LGBT community.

In other words, marketing!

We don't love when they muck with our sign, but at least we're happy to have a photo we can use around Christmas.
Usually, we don’t love when they muck with our sign, but in this case, we’re happy to have a photo we can use on our Christmas cards.

Yes, marketing. Don’t let anyone tell you Sin City’s LGBT (and sometimes “Q”) efforts are about embracing diverse lifestyles. It’s about the LGBT community being a high-earning consumer demographic. Not as romantic at that other thing, but in Las Vegas, it’s all about the bottom line.

Random trivia: The rainbow flag is also used by the native Andean people of Tahuantinsuyu to represent the legacy of the Inca Empire. You’re welcome.

This is the 30th annual Las Vegas Pride, and events will include a family skate night, bingo, pool parties and the Pride Parade and Festival on Sep. 7, 2013.
