Online Casino Handle in Ontario Hits 89% Market Share

There’s typically a downturn in sports betting during the summer months, but the level of market share dominance for online casino in the Ontario regulated market is still a top narrative, according to market performance data for July released today by iGaming Ontario.
4% Increase in Overall Handle
Total cash wagers for the province in July were at CAD $7.56 billion (June was CAD $7.25 billion); a four per cent increase compared to June. Revenue was at CAD $311 million, a one per cent month-over-month increase.
Active player accounts dropped six per cent, to 948,000, with average revenue per active player account at $328, up eight per cent.
More specifically, in terms of handle, casino came in at CAD $6.73 billion, a six per cent increase compared to June, an 89 per cent market share.
Casino Dominates
On the revenue front, online casino came in at CAD $252.3 million for July, a four per cent month over month increase, for an 81 per cent market share.
Sports betting saw a ten per cent month over month decrease on the cash wager end, at CAD $688 million, for a nine per cent market share. Revenue for sports betting was at CAD $52.7 million, down ten per cent, for a 17 per cent market share.
Cash wagers for P2P poker for July was CAD $139 million, a five per cent increase from June, for na two per cent market share. On the revenue front, poker was at CAD $5.9 million, a 10 per cent increase, and a two per cent market share.
Sports Betting Down 10%
Not a surprise, knowing how the Ontario regulated market is performing on the online casino end, licensed operators keep introducing new content.
Today, Caesars Entertainment announced the launch of another exclusive slot title in Ontario – Caesars Treasure Trio.
Ontario currently has 50 igaming operators licensed, with the number of gaming website in the province now at 87.
Total handle for the market in July 2024 was CAD $6.09 billion.
