On Wednesday, Resorts World Las Vegas and Zoox announced a partnership that designates the transportation firm as the casino’s “Official Robotaxi.” Zoox, a subsidiary of Amazon after it was acquired in June 2020 for $1.2 billion, allows people to be transported in driverless vehicles.

Zoox is being allocated a dedicated pick-up and drop-off location at the Resorts World Las Vegas main entrance. Zoox will also be allowed to directly promote its service to RWLV guests throughout the property.

Carlos Castro, president and chief financial officer of Resorts World Las Vegas, says the Zoox arrival preps the destination for the “future of guest experiences.”

This collaboration with Zoox reflects our commitment to integrating technology solutions that elevate our service offerings and enhance how guests experience our property,” said Castro. “By welcoming Zoox robotaxis into our transportation ecosystem, we’re creating new possibilities for our guests, while reinforcing Las Vegas’s position as a global innovation hub.”

Zoox is currently testing its robotaxi in Las Vegas and San Francisco. The taxi program is set to officially launch service throughout Southern Nevada later this year, followed by San Francisco. Testing is also underway in Miami and Austin.

Each Zoox vehicle can accommodate up to four passengers in a carriage-style arrangement. The all-electric vehicles allow passengers to hold intimate and private conversations without a physical driver. The autonomous nature of the vehicles also allows riders who might have social anxieties to travel in a private setting.

Zoox said in addition to Resorts World, the company plans to broaden its operation in Southern Nevada later this year.

Anyone who has used Uber or Lyft will quickly become familiar with hailing a Zoox. Riders simply download and open the Zoox app, enter their information and payment, and pick the destination they wish to travel to. A Zoox will be hailed, and when it arrives, the user opens the vehicle on the app. An in-vehicle digital display allows riders to adjust the temperature and play music.

While Zoox claims to be safer than a taxi driven by a human being, the company recalled 270 vehicles this month to perform a critical software update after an unoccupied Zoox in San Francisco was struck by a person riding an electric scooter at a low speed. The rider sustained only minor injuries.

RWLV is a Tech-Focused Casino

Resorts World Las Vegas has many tech-focused lures for guests.

The property includes RED, a digital concierge that allows for seamless check-in and check-out, assists in making reservations, and handles simple requests like in-room dining and having a car brought from the parking garage. Most Resorts World guestrooms come with a 65-inch LED Smart TV.

In the casino, Resorts World Las Vegas offers cashless gaming through the property’s app. The mobile amenity allows gamblers to play slots, table games, and make sports bets using their smartphone and avoid carrying large sums of cash.

The app can additionally be used to make purchases throughout the resort and everywhere Mastercard is accepted.
