- Rodgers joins Steelers after off-season of speculation
- Steelers’ division odds move slightly at ESPN BET
- Steelers slight favourites for season opener against Jets
The Aaron Rodgers off-season saga has finally come to an end, with the 41-year-old free agent quarterback announcing his intention to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The news has had little impact on betting lines however.

Reports: One-Year Deal With Steelers
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network broke the news this afternoon. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network says Rodgers is signing a one-year deal. No details on money.
Rodgers is a four-time MVP, coming off two non-descript seasons with the New York Jets.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Rodgers plans to fly to Pittsburgh and join the team ahead of next week’s mandatory minicamp.
NFL Betting Odds: Jets-Steelers Week 1
The Rodgers-to-Steelers rumours was one of the primary narratives this NFL off-season, with the Steelers having moved on from Russell Wilson, now with the New York Giants, and Justin Fields, now, interestingly, with the Jets.
The Jets host the Steelers in the season opener.
On April 17, Rodgers told Pat McAfee:
I’m open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life. And that’s what I’ve told the coaches. There’s still conversations that are being had. It’s all been very honest lines of communication.”
Little Movement With Betting Lines
A quick scan at the Steelers depth chart lists Mason Rudolph as the team’s No. 1 quarterback.
Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with the Jets last season.
At ESPN BET, with the news, Steelers’ division odds moved from +550 to +500, with the team moving from +150 to +140 to make the playoffs.
The total wins did not move, but the over 8.5 price moved from +125 to +110. Steelers-Jets Week 1 moved from Steelers -2.5 to Steelers -3.
At BetMGM, in NFL betting odds, the Steelers were +4500 to win the Super Bowl before the signing, and odds didn’t move since it was assumed Rodgers would sign with the Steelers, a spokesman from BetMGM said. A PointsBet Canada spokesman said there’s been no odds movement there as well – Rodgers was already baked into their odds as well, at +6000 to win the Super Bowl.
According to Caesars Digital Head of Football Joey Feazel: “No movement as this was already baked into our prices… as it was one of the worst kept secrets in sports.”
The Steelers have been 0-6 in the playoffs since 2016. Rodgers, a zero-risk signing, is a better option than Wilson, certainly, so can Pittsburgh win a playoff game now?
