  • Kittle and Purdy injuries impact betting lines
  • Ravens lead most lopsided money line picks so far
  • Are the Dolphins as bad as they appeared in Week 1?

There are a couple of news items today impacting NFL betting heading into Week 2, led by the San Francisco 49ers announcing that star tight end George Kittle is going on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.

Kittle Goes on Injured Reserve

Kittle suffered the injury Sunday in the win over Seattle. He’ll miss the next four games – this Sunday at home against New Orleans, then Arizona, Jacksonville and the L.A. Rams.

QB Brock Purdy is dealing with a shoulder and toe issue as well and could also miss the New Orleans game.

Plus, Deebo Samuel is not there anymore (traded to Washington). Is the 49ers’ competitive window closed?

“The 49ers-Saints line has moved from 6.5 to 4.5 due to injury concerns surrounding Brock Purdy, and it could shift again as game time approaches,” said Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook, when contacted by Casino.org.

Lopsided Moneyline Picks

It’s early in the week but check out some of the early betting action from ESPN BET on this Sunday’s games, looking at where the money is going. All seem to suggest in the eyes of bettors anyway that the divide between haves and have-nots in the NFL is widening.

Most lopsided moneyline picks: Ravens, 96.3% of bets versus Browns, Bills 96% of bets at Jets, Rams 96% bets at Titans, Cardinals 94.7% of bets versus Panthers, Cowboys 93.9% of bets versus the Giants, and the 49ers, 95.3% of bets at the Saints.

In terms of handle: Bills 95.3% at Jets, 49ers 95.2% at Saints, Ravens 94.8% versus Browns, Steelers 94.5% versus Seahawks, Cowboys 93.6% versus Giants and Bengals 90.5% versus Jaguars.

Notable Line Movements

Notable line movement today at BetMGM: Packers -2.5 to -3.5 versus Commanders, Patriots +2.5 to +1.5 at Dolphins, Jaguars +5.5 to +3.5 at Bengals, Cowboys -3 to -6 versus Giants, and Rams -5.5 to -6 at Titans.

The aforementioned Saints went from +7 to +4.5 versus the 49ers on the Kittle and Purdy news.

Another high-level narrative is that the Miami Dolphins, blown out 33-8 Sunday by the Indianapolis Colts, are far worse than people predicted, and it could be a long season in the Sunshine State.

There is buzz among peers that QB Tua Tagovailoa bails out fast and panics when pressured in the pocket, when the first option isn’t available, including these comments by Xavien Howard of the Colts.

“The Dolphins-Patriots line is also drawing attention after Miami’s disappointing Week 1 performance, opening at -2.5 and moving to -1.5,” Feazel added.
