- Foxwoods is all clear after a five-alarm fire in the Grand Pequot Tower
- The blaze began inside the David Burke Prime Steakhouse
- Three firefighters were hospitalized
Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn., was the site of a five-alarm fire on Tuesday night.

The kitchen at David Burke Prime Steakhouse, located inside the Grand Pequot Tower, was where firefighters said the blaze began. First responders with the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Fire Department quickly called for backup, as the flames spread across the steakhouse.
The fine dining destination, known for its US patent on how it dry-ages its beef in a room lined with Himalayan salt cubes, fancy cocktails, and an extensive wine list, is located on the lower restaurant level beneath the Grand Pequot Casino.
Prime is adjacent to the Canopy Players Lounge, Grace by Nia restaurant, and High Rollers Luxury Lanes & Sports Lounge.
Foxwoods Five-Alarm Five
Firefighters managed to contain the Prime blaze, but not before ringing the five-alarm bell. Five-alarm fires, the most severe and rare of fire responses, are reserved for fires inside major infrastructure buildings. They typically require extensive manpower and resources, with assistance from neighboring companies.
After several hours, firefighters said the fire had been extinguished.
“We have provided an all-clear on the situation at the Grand Pequot Tower,” the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation’s Fire Department said in a social media post late Tuesday night. The tribe added that impacted areas, including the steakhouse, have been secured from guests.
Foxwoods added that all other areas of the Grand Pequot Tower had “resumed normal operations and are safe to access.”
The fire resulted in three firefighters being sent to the hospital. Tribal officials later explained that the first responders had been hospitalized for evaluation but were released early this morning.
The Taftville Fire Department in Norwich and the Gales Ferry Volunteer Fire Co. in Ledyard were among the assisting companies.
We would like to thank our neighboring fire and police departments for their partnership and swift response in protecting the safety of our guests and team members,” said the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Fire Department.
The tribal FD said the five-alarm bell was rung “due to the size of the building.”
Foxwoods is among the largest casino resorts in the country. Owned and operated by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, the destination has five casinos with more than 3,200 slot machines and 174 table games. The four hotels offer 2,200 guestrooms.
Foxwoods Police Response
It’s been an active fall for Foxwoods Resort Casino. Last month, Casino.org reported on a situation inside the Fox Tower that resulted in a police request for “all available” officers.
Initial reports suggested an armed man was holding at least one woman hostage on the 16th floor of the hotel tower. Foxwoods officials later said that the man had let the woman go soon after police arrived on the floor, but a standoff ensued.
Hours later, the suspect, later identified as 40-year-old David Griswold, surrendered without incident. Law enforcement reported that Griswold said he was under the influence of crack cocaine and heroin.
