Shane Tamura, the man who shot four people to death in a Manhattan skyscraper Monday, bought the rifle he used in the attack from his supervisor at the Horseshoe Las Vegas casino resort. So said New York police on Wednesday.

Tamura’s supervisor in the casino’s surveillance department legally purchased the AR-15-style rifle he sold to Tamura for $1,400, police said. It was not immediately clear, however, whether the resale of the murder weapon constituted a crime.

As of yet, the supervisor, whose name was not released, has not been charged with one.
The supervisor also sold Tamura the BMW the 27-year-old drove across country to commit the atrocity. A revolver found in the car was purchased legally in a separate transaction in Nevada on June 12, police said. Tamura was issued a permit to conceal-carry for the revolver, not the rifle.
Tamura fatally shot three people in the lobby of 345 Park Ave., which houses the NFL’s headquarters, before taking an elevator to the 33rd floor, where he killed another person before ending his own life.
In a note found in his wallet, Tamura claimed to suffer from the brain condition CTE, and he blamed the NFL for hiding the dangers of brain injuries suffered in contact sports.
Police said that note also contained an apology to his Horseshoe supervisor.
Tamura had a documented history of mental illness. A search of his Las Vegas apartment by New York police turned up anti-psychotic, anti-epileptic and anti-inflammatory meds, a suicide note in which he apologized to his mother, 100 rounds for the revolver and a single rifle round.
“I love you Momma, I’m sorry,” the note read, according to police.
In September 2023, Tamura was arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing charge at Red Rock Casino Resort. Tamura refused to leave the property, located in Las Vegas’ Summerlin surburb, after being detained by police for causing a scene. He had demanded $5,000 he had just won from a cage cashier without having to show his ID.
As of Wednesday, the New York police contingent remained in Las Vegas, where they obtained a warrant to search Tamura’s Horseshoe locker.
