  • Thrilling finishes across the NFL landscape in Week 3
  • Browns pull off big upset over the Packers
  • Breaking news: Bosa tears ACL, out for season

NFL Week 3 is in the books (just tonight’s Ravens-Lions showdown remains, with 62.5% of bets and 77.3% of handle in on the Ravens at -4.5, according to ESPN Bet), with its share of bizarre endings, and those betting on points spreads having a rough day, no doubt.

Upsets a Storyline

Week 3 storylines were led by Browns’ rookie running back Quinshon Judkins, rushing for 94 yards on 18 cards in the Browns’ 13-10 upset win over the Packers. He’s the Browns’ No. 1 back now. A hideous ankle injury to Cardinals’ running back James Conner against the 49ers finished his season. Cowboys’ star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain against the Bears and is likely out for this Sunday’s game against the Packers.

And after news reporting yesterday that 49ers’ star DE Nick Bosa had avoided an ACL injury, news breaks today that he did in fact tear his knee ligament in their game against the Cardinals, and he’s out for the season.

The Chiefs scored their first win of the season over the Giants, 22-9, but that game was marked by head coach Andy Reid bumping the shoulder of tight end Travis Kelce as Kelce left the field after a fiery exchange between the two. They’ve had shouting exchanges during games before, which Reid chocked up to Kelce’s passion for the game.

Eagles Score Dramatic Win Over Rams

The Packers were set to win their game against the Browns on a 43-yard field goal and the game tied 10-10 with 24 second left, only to have the kick blocked, and as said they’d lose the game.

“What drew the biggest shock after years of being their biggest fans each week was that we fully expected the Browns to miss the game-winning field goal,” said Caesars Sportsbook Head of Football Joey Feazel. “Instead, there were cheers on the trading floor, as we were stunned that this was not the Browns we were used to cheering for over the years.”

Falcons Look Terrible

The Eagles sealed their comeback 33-26 win over the Rams with a blocked 44-yard field goal with three seconds left which the Eagles 336-pound defensive tackle Jordan Davis then rumbled back for a TD. Philadelphia not only survived the Rams on the final play but also covered –3.5 after returning it for the touchdown.

The Eagles ML odds reached +2000 in-game at ESPN BET. Pre-game, 52.7% of bets and 55.9% of handle were on the Rams spread, though 82.8% of bets and 81.4% of handle were on Eagles ML.

Feazel commented on the Eagles’ blocked field goal by Davis for a TD, and how big of a swing that was.

Significant, crazy endings ninety-nine times out of a hundred usually benefit the customers, and you could hear the hearts pounding of Eagles spread ticket holders while they cheered a mountain of a man carrying their millions move like lightning for 74 yards, a thrilling way to cash a winning ticket,” he says.

The Bucs are for real under QB Baker Mayfield. Tampa Bay survived three fourth quarter touchdowns from the Jets with a walk off field goal of their own but couldn’t cover the –6.5 at home.

Browns’ Surprise Win Over Packers

At ESPN BET, 95.9% of bets and 97.3% of handle were on Bucs ML. The Jets covered +6.5 for the 22.5% of bettors that backed them (accounting for 31.4% of handle). Tampa Bay was the second most bet ML team by bets and handle on Sunday’s early window.

The Falcons looked like an abomination, losing 30-0 to the Carolina Panthers.

ESPN BET also focused on Super Bowl futures. The Bills (+500), Ravens (+500), Packers (+550) and Eagles (+700) sit atop the Super Bowl Winner board with the same odds they entered Sunday with.

Herbert Tightens MVP Futures

The top four have gained separation from the pack, as the next best odds are the Chiefs and Chargers at +1400.

Chargers’ QB Justin Herbert has the third best MVP odds, further shortened Sunday from +750 to +550 at ESPN BET. The Packers’ Jordan Love remains in 4th but has moved back from +800 to +1300.

“Crazy 10 Minutes”

Overall, it was a nutty day at the sportsbooks.

“A crazy 10 minutes basically decided [the early games], with last-second field goals in Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Cleveland pretty much all at the same time. Philadelphia’s Block-Six got the cover for the Eagles faithful, and the Bucs’ comeback again late were great results for the customers,” Feazel said. “The big two shocks on the Moneylines went against the customers with the Panthers and Browns pulling upsets that swung the morning slightly against the public.

“The later games were a push with the bettors. Chargers covering -2.5 from the opening lines was the result of the day for the customers, and the Bears topping the Cowboys was the one highlight of the afternoon for the book.”

At FanDuel, most popular bets over Week 3 were Moneylines, Bucs, Packers and Chiefs, and most bet teams were the Bucs, Packers and Chargers.
