Ontario’s regulated igaming industry set a record for total cash wagers in May, smashing the CAD $8 billion mark.

The Ontario igaming industry smashed the CAD $8 billion barrier in cash wagers in May, according to financial results released by iGaming Ontario.

All-Time High in Revenue

According to iGaming Ontario market performance data just released, the province saw CAD $8.066 billion in total cash wagers, a 3% month over month increase.

Last month Casino.org reported how April was the second most lucrative month in terms of non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) in the over three-year history of the regulated market, at CAD $313.3 million (CAD $328.4 million in January 2025 was the highest).

Casino Leads the Charge

May smashed that as well – with revenue coming in at CAD $338 million, a robust 8% month-over-month increase.

Active player account dropped 2%, to 1.068 million. Average spend was up however – a 10% increase, to CAD $316.

Casino is where it’s at – 86% market share in cash wagers, now, with CAD $6.9 billion (6% month over month increase), and CAD $259.8 million in NAGGR (77% market share, 7% month over month increase).

10% Increase in Spend

Sports betting saw CAD $972 million in cash wagers in May, down 9% from April, with a 12% market share. On the NAGGR front the number was CAD $71.8 million, an 11% month-over-month increase, and a 21% market share.

In terms of P2P poker, cash wagers were at CAD $144 million, with zero per cent month over month increase, and a 2% market share. NAGGR was at CAD $6.3 million, a 6% month-over-month increase, and a 2% market share.

I think back to April 2022, when we launched the igaming market,” said Dave Forestell, Board Chair, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, at last week’s Canadian Gaming Summit. “And at the time, we said our goal was to be the best place to game in the world. And it was sort of an ambitious target, and ambitious thing for kind of Canadians to say about themselves, but I think that really set out the north star for where we wanted to head … best in terms of player experience, best in terms of ease of doing business, but also best in terms of player protection, in terms of anti-money laundering.

“From that perspective, I think the market launch was very successful. And you know, I think that when you set the goal of being best at anything, you could never go to sleep. You have to always stay at it. From my perspective, it’s been quite successful.”

The iGaming Ontario results don’t include the financial performance of the government-operated Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, with a fiscal year that runs April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
