  • Los Angeles Dodgers are -207 favorites at DraftKings for Game 3 of the World Series; Toronto Blue Jays are +167
  • Yamamoto moving up in World Series MVP futures
  • Bichette returns to starting lineup

Max Scherzer for the Blue Jays and Tyler Glasnow for the Dodgers go head-to-head, starting for their respective teams in Game 3 of the World Series tonight in Los Angeles (8:00 p.m. EST), with one trader saying both pitcher strikeout totals look ripe for some opinion betting.

Heavy Betting Action Expected on Blue Jays

Phill Gray is looking at Glasgow over 5.5 and Scherzer under 4.5, assuming Scherzer is on a short leash, despite the feistiness we saw in the ALCS against the Mariners when manager John Schneider tried to take him out of the game in the fifth inning.

“There is a big price on the Jays given its a World Series series game, but the matchup does warrant it, at +165,” said Gray, the former head of trading operations at Sports Interaction, and an industry sports betting consultant. “I’d expect that to take some heavy action on the Jays’ side. Dodgers RL -1.5, at -103, the same.

“The Total is up to 8.5 now from the opener 8, and says the public was heavily in on that expecting a slugfest, with contrarian action certainly coming back on that from the pro bettors. There’s a strong pitching matchup, even given Scherzer’s age [41] and Glasnow’s dominance this postseason.

Bichette Back in the Starting Lineup

“There could be some perceived value in the Jays order for HR prices (most popular public prop) – Springer +460 Barger +600 Kirk +700 Bichette +700. Expect a few of those to get hammered from Jays backers.”

Bichette is back in the lineup, likely starting at second base, with Springer staying at DH. Bichette had a .311 batting average, with 18 home runs and 94 RBIs, leading MLB with 181 hits when he was injured Sept. 6 against the Yankees. He missed both the ALDS against the Yankees and the ALCS against the Mariners with a knee issue.

Ohtani HR Most Bet Prop

How he is handled by Schneider will continue to have a massive impact on the series, particularly since the Jays will likely have to face Yoshinobu Yamamoto again, as early as Game 6, if they get that far, after the Japanese starting pitcher owned them in Game 2 (5-1 Dodgers’ win) – becoming the first pitcher since Curt Schilling (2001) to throw consecutive complete games in the post season.

Most bet props (tickets) at BetMGM: Shohei Ohtani Over 0.5 Home runs +155, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 0.5 Home runs +310, Bo Bichette Under 1.5 Total hits, runs and RBIs -120, Freddie Freeman Over 0.5 Home runs +375, Max Scherzer Under 4.5 Strikeouts -175.

At DraftKings: Ohtani 1+ home runs is among the most bet player props, along with Vlad Guerrero Jr. 1+ hits, George Springer 2+ total bases, Freddie Freeman 1+ RBIs, and Glasnow 6+ strikeouts thrown.

The 6-foot-8 Glasnow has given up just one run over 13.1 innings so far this postseason, for a 0.68 ERA, 18 strikeouts, giving up seven hits. Glasnow has a 1-4 career record against the Blue Jays.

The top of the Dodgers order – Ohtani, Mookie Betts, and Freeman  – struggled over the two games in Toronto. Don’t expect that to last long.

MVP Futures Take a Turn

DraftKings has the ML Dodgers -207, the Jays +167 (RL Jays +1.5 at -115, Dodgers -1.5 at -105). FanDuel has the ML Dodgers -205, Jays +172, Jays +1.5 at -120 on the RL, Dodgers -1.5 (+100).

Yamamoto movement is interesting in terms of World Series MVP futures, since as said there’s a chance of another start in Toronto if the series gets that far. Over at ESPN BET, Ohtani is +175, despite being shut down in Games 1 and 2 – except for a HR in Game 1, a game that was out of reach for the Dodgers at that point. Guerrero Jr. is +500, followed by Yamamoto at +750.
