  • Metallica announced an eight-show residency at the Las Vegas Sphere starting October 1, 2026
  • Its “No Repeat Weekend” format ensures entirely different setlists for every Thursday and Saturday show
  • Metallica will be the first heavy metal act to headline the Sphere — but probably not the only one for long

Metallica will headline an eight-show residency at the Las Vegas Sphere this fall, the heavy metal legends announced on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Billed as “Metallica: Life Burns Faster — Live at Sphere,” the run is scheduled for Oct. 1 and 3, 15 and 17, 22 and 24, and 29 and 31.

Heavily teased by band members for months, this was one of the least surprising major Las Vegas entertainment announcements ever made — and it was preceded by all four current band members attending the Eagles’ Sphere residency on Jan. 30, 2026. (Because they all love “Peaceful Easy Feeling” so much?)

“About 12 seconds into the opening night of Sphere with U2 back in ’23, I thought, ‘We have to do this, it’s completely uncharted territory!’” Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said in a statement. “This residency gives us another chance to reinvent how we interact with our fans in a live setting. We are beyond excited to share this with the world in six months time, and way fuckin’ psyched to go next level!”

‘No Repeat’ Weekends

Continuing the practice guiding the band’s “M72 World Tour,” which launched in April 2023 in Amsterdam, the metal legends vow not to repeat any songs during their Thursday and Saturday performances each week.

This brilliant move ensures that most fans will want attend both nights in order to see all their favorite songs performed. Indeed, Sphere tickets will be available in single-night and two-night “No Repeat Weekend” configurations.

Gaps in the Sphere’s performance calendar indicate expansion possibilities through December. The Sphere has a policy of only announcing residencies in small clusters of dates, then waiting until they all sell out before adding more. This is true even for acts with zero chance of leaving empty seats, such as the Eagles and No Doubt.

Metallica will be the first heavy metal band to play the Sphere — though, going by a recent interview with Tool drummer Danny Carey, it will soon not be the only one.

Tickets for “Life Burns Faster” will go on sale 10 a.m. PT March 6. To register for the sale and for information about pre-sales, enhanced experiences, and travel packages, visit metallica.lnk.to/MetallicaSphere.
