The Mason County Sheriff’s Office reports that an unknown male entered the tribal casino owned and operated by the Squaxin Island Tribe around 11:24 am local time on Saturday, Aug. 9. The man approached the casino’s cage, showed a handgun, and demanded that the cashier hand over all the cash in the till.

The casino employee informed the person that their register was empty. The man then quickly left the casino. Responding police and K-9 units were unable to locate the man, who they believe fled on foot.

He was last seen running toward Highway 101, then onto the overpass and out of sight,” a post on the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page read.

Little Creek has 750 slot machines, 28 table games, and an IGT PlaySports Sportsbook. The tribal resort features a 200-room hotel, an RV park, six restaurants and bars, an event center, the Seven Inlets Spa, and the Salish Cliffs Golf Club. The destination is located northwest of Olympia near Olympic National Park.

Police Seeking Assistance

The Mason County Sheriff’s Office says the alleged suspect in the failed Saturday holdup is roughly 5’7″ with a “small build.” He’s “possibly Hispanic,” and likely 20 to 30 years old.

“He was wearing a gray or dark flannel button-up shirt (buttoned to the neck), dark gray pants, dark ‘Romeo’ style boots, a light gray hat with a white Nike logo, and sunglasses. He had a clear plastic glove on his right hand and was armed with a pistol,” the law enforcement alert added.

If you have any information about the suspect, police ask you to call 911.

Casino Robbery Spree?

One comment on the Mason County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post questioned whether the man captured in the surveillance video at Little Creek Casino is the same man who held up the Silver Reef Casino about a week ago. Silver Reef is just south of the Canadian border, about a three-hour drive north of Little Creek Casino.

Law enforcement in Whatcom County reported that a man entered the tribal casino owned and operated by the Lummi Nation sometime on Sunday morning, Aug 3. The man approached the casino cage and demanded money.

A statement from the Lummi Nation Police Department did not reveal if the man made off with any cash or if he brandished a firearm. Surveillance photos of the incident show a man seemingly of similar stature, though his arms are exposed and appear to have tattoos.

Looks similar to the guy at Silver Reef Casino a week ago, but with a shave,” read the Facebook comment.

Others said the Little Creek Casino suspect appears to be the same person who recently stole the “jaws of life” from the Riverside Fire Authority in Centralia. “Jaws of life” are hydraulic rescue tools used by emergency first responders to extricate individuals trapped in vehicles or in other situations where access is limited by debris or wreckage.
