Allegiant Airlines is expanding its map to the gaming capital of the East Coast — Atlantic City.

Allegiant announced Wednesday that beginning December 4, the airline will fly direct from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to Atlantic City International (ACY). The ultra-low-cost carrier will expand to include St. Petersburg/Tampa (PIE), Sanford/Orlando (SFB), and Punta Gorda/Fort Myers (PGD), all in Florida, beginning Presidents’ Day weekend in February 2026.

“We’re thrilled to bring our brand of low-cost, high-value travel to one of New Jersey’s most iconic destinations. Connecting this vibrant community with several cities across Florida not only strengthens our leisure network but opens up more affordable and convenient travel options for our customers in both regions,” said Drew Wells, Allegiant’s chief commercial officer.

It’s a win for travelers seeking sun and sand, and for those who want to experience the coastal charm of the Eastern Seaboard or stroll along Atlantic City’s famed Boardwalk,” Wells added.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant is the only commercial airliner headquartered in Southern Nevada, though Southwest, Frontier, and Spirit call Harry Reid International a hub. Allegiant holds the naming rights to the Las Vegas Raiders’ NFL stadium, located just west of the Strip, through 2050.

Atlantic City Casino Visitation

The addition of Allegiant Airlines to Atlantic City International doubles the number of commercial airline operators at the state-owned facility, as the airport is currently only home to Spirit. American Airlines operates a shuttle service between the airport and Philadelphia International.

For the nine casinos in Atlantic City, the Allegiant news is much welcomed, as it connects the casino town directly with Florida and the Allegiant network.

Passenger traffic at Atlantic City International remains suppressed from 2019, when the facility counted a little more than one million arriving and departing passengers. ACY facilitated 918K travelers in 2024, which was a 15% year-over-year improvement.

Atlantic City airport business this year through June is down a quarter to approximately 361K passengers. The numbers don’t include charters and private jets.

Allegiant betting on Atlantic City suggests the airline thinks there’s adequate demand from the four Florida metros. That should help the nine Atlantic City casinos increase their number of occupied hotel room nights, which remain below 2019 figures.

In 2019, the nine properties sold 4,292,536 room nights. Last year, the number of sold casino hotel rooms totaled 4,030,060. The average nightly room rate has soared from $142 in 2019 to $178 last year.

Philly Primary AC Air Hub

Philadelphia’s international airport, located south of the city’s center, serves as the primary air hub for travelers flying to Atlantic City. The nation’s 21st-busiest airport, with 15.1 million passengers last year, PHL is an hour’s drive along the Atlantic City Expressway to the casino town and Atlantic Ocean.

The Pleasantville Toll Plaza along the AC Expressway, a key indicator of visitor traffic into Atlantic City, counted a little more than 18 million vehicles in 2024. That’s more than 1.8 million fewer vehicles than the number of toll-paying traffic that was counted in 2019.
