- Snowfall is coming up just short of pre-storm expectations in Atlantic City
- The New Jersey casino town has received almost 15″ of the white stuff since yesterday afternoon
- The storm is winding down this morning and afternoon, with the heaviest snow finished
The 2026 blizzard of Atlantic City was a bust, as the official definition of visibility being reduced to less than a quarter-mile was not met. However, there was plenty of snow and wind gusts of up to 56 mph during the overnight hours, making the Feb. 22-23 snowstorm one to remember.

Atlantic City’s nine casinos have remained open throughout, as guests and workers hunkered down to ride out the storm.
The Showboat offered free parking for Atlantic City residents who needed to move their cars on one of the eight snow emergency routes.
Snowfall fell just short of the 15-24″ of white stuff forecasted ahead of Winter Storm Hernando’s arrival along the New Jersey Shore. As of Monday at 8:30 am, the National Weather Service said total snowfall at Atlantic City International Airport was 14.5 inches.
Atlantic City Updates
Atlantic City government officials urge the public to continue avoiding travel. Staying off the roads allows plows and emergency vehicles to operate safely.
Parking remains restricted on snow emergency routes. Those roads include Atlantic Ave., Martin Luther King Blvd., Ohio Ave., Indiana Ave., Melrose Ave., Arctic Ave., Fairmount Ave., and Baltic Ave. Vehicles parked on those roads will be towed.
City Hall and municipal buildings are closed on Monday and Tuesday. There will be no trash collection on Monday.
We want everybody to stay safe, stay off the roads, and stay indoors,” said Scott Evans, Atlantic City’s fire chief and emergency operations coordinator.
Inside the nine casinos, it’s business as usual. Slot machines and table games remain operational, and most resort amenities are up and running.
However, there are some inclement weather disruptions. Resorts, for example, says Dougherty’s Steakhouse & Raw Bar is closed today. It’s best to call ahead regarding the status of restaurants and other resort amenities today and tomorrow.
AC Weather Record
The 2026 snowstorm threatened to rewrite the weather history book in Atlantic City.
The casino city’s biggest snowstorm occurred in February 1978, when 20.1 inches fell on the shore town. The catastrophic Feb. 5-7 nor’easter was responsible for more than 100 deaths throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and caused over $2.5 billion (in 2026 dollars) in damages.
With sustained winds of 86 mph and wind gusts of up to 111 mph, the storm was labeled a Category 5 “Major” Blizzard. The National Centers for Environmental Information ranks the February 1978 blizzard 15th in its Winter Storm Events Database, which dates to January 1950.
The largest single-day snowfall in Atlantic City measured 18.4 inches. That storm occurred the day after Christmas on Dec. 26, 2010.
