Plane Makes Emergency Landing at Las Vegas Airport After Engine Catches Fire

No one was injured when an American Airlines flight from Las Vegas was forced to make an emergency landing Wednesday morning shortly after takeoff, FAA officials told KLAS-TV/Las Vegas.

American Airlines Flight 1665 — carrying 153 passengers and six crew members to Charlotte, NC — doubled back to Harry Reid International Airport around 8:20 am after its right engine caught fire.

The plane landed safely and taxied to the terminal under its own power.

American Airlines said in a statement that the maintenance team found no evidence of an engine fire. However, this video, shot by a passenger on the flight and obtained by the X news channel Las Vegas Locally, clearly shows one.

The aircraft is being taken out of service and evaluated. and the FAA is investigating.
