  • The Las Vegas Visitors and Convention Authority will debut the first commercial for its new Las Vegas marketing campaign on Thursday
  • Titled “Welcome to Fabulous,” it plays on the magic of Las Vegas using the unique verbiage of Las Vegas’ famous welcome sign
  • The campaign is a response to a slew of headlines claiming that Las Vegas is dead

As a marketing organization, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is more about changing the perception of Las Vegas than the reality of it. But in Las Vegas, perception is reality. And the LVCVA’s latest Las Vegas marketing campaign comes in response to a maelstrom of negative publicity about Las Vegas being dead.

The first commercial in the new campaign, “Welcome to Fabulous,” launches on Thursday night during the Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles NFL game. Playing up the unique glitz and glamour of a Vegas getaway, it features a depressed office worker yearning for a break from the soul-crushing day-to-day when, out of nowhere, she magically dances up a wall that opens onto Fremont Street.

“Today, as visitor expectations continue to evolve, Las Vegas is meeting the moment with the launch of a multifaceted campaign spanning broadcast TV, activations, experiences, special offers, and partnerships that will be rolled out in the coming weeks,” reads the press announcement from LVCVA.

Yes, those visitor expectations are definitely evolving. Visitation has dropped about 7% from 2024 to date. And, as Vital Vegas noted on Wednesday: “people are talking about it. A lot.”

According to Vital Vegas, the LVCVA “has been making the rounds to get casinos on board with the idea the image of Las Vegas has been tarnished, and attention needs to be paid to the issue collectively.”

Can a new LVCVA ad campaign remove that tarnish by itself? Probably not. But it’s a start.

“Just as we did over two decades ago with the ‘What Happens Here, Stays Here’ campaign, we’ve learned from extensive research and most importantly, we’ve listened to the wants and needs of our visitors,” Michon Martin, CEO of R&R Partners, the LVCVA’s advertising agency, said in the press announcement. “At a time when all of us need a break, ‘Welcome to Fabulous’ is a reminder of how Las Vegas makes you feel, no matter how you choose to experience it.”

As part of the campaign, the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign (the obvious inspiration for the new campaign) will light up in Vegas purple for 24 hours on Thursday, and marquees and digital billboards throughout Las Vegas will collectively feature the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” message.

Times Square in Manhattan will also debut a 3D anamorphic billboard showcasing Las Vegas imagery, and on Sunset Boulevard in LA, a billboard will blink from “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” to “Come to Fabulous Las Vegas” beginning on Monday.
