- Potawatomi Casino’s valet parking garage flooded last week
- Guests can retrieve their vehicles today at the Milwaukee casino resort
- The historic floods caused much damage
Stranded vehicles in the Potawatomi Casino Hotel valet parking garage in Milwaukee can be claimed beginning Thursday morning at 9 am CDT.

The tribal casino’s underground valet parking garage experienced extensive flooding after parts of the city located on the western shore of Lake Michigan received up to 10 inches of rainfall. Described as a “once in a thousand years” weather event, the heavy rain fell Saturday into Sunday, August 9-10.
Valeted vehicles were unable to be retrieved after the Potawatomi underground parking structure flooded. Guests who self-parked on the first level of the six-level garage were also unable to retrieve their car or truck because of the flooding.
From 9 am local time until 6 pm Thursday, guests who valeted before the weekend flooding can retrieve their vehicle from a corner lot located on the southwest side of the casino building along W. Potawatomi Circle.
“Vehicles have been safely removed and placed in the corner lot located on the southwest side of the building. This lot will only be open for guests, insurance adjusters, and tow trucks,” a statement from the casino explained.
Vehicles can be claimed with a valet ticket, car registration, or car title, along with a valid government-issued ID. Insurance adjusters must have their business card plus the VIN or work order showing the customer’s VIN. Tow trucks must have a work order or invoice for a specific vehicle.
Vehicle Damage
Many vehicles that were parked in the valet garage suffered water damage.
Unfortunately, due to the amount of water that has entered the garage, we anticipate that patron vehicles have sustained damage,” a spokesperson for the casino said previously. Resort officials explained that “the speed and volume of water” made it unsafe to try and move vehicles out of the underground parking facility as the heavy rain persisted.
Most standard auto insurance policies don’t cover flood damage. Only policies with comprehensive coverage, or “other than collision,” typically cover vehicle damage caused by water or flooding. Comprehensive additionally covers damage from hail, fire, vandalism, and theft.
Casino Resort Remains Open
The Potawatomi Casino Hotel remained open throughout the storm. Guests were advised to use the above-ground parking structure entrance off the 16th Street Bridge.
The Potawatomi Casino is among the largest in Wisconsin, with around 3,000 slot machines, 60 live-dealer table games, bingo and poker rooms, and the Potawatomi Sportsbook.
Wisconsin is home to more than two dozen tribal casinos. Federally recognized tribes in the Badger State hold a monopoly on casino gambling, as commercial casinos are not allowed.
In its fiscal year 2024 revenue report, the National Indian Gaming Commission said tribal casinos in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan, and Indiana generated gross gaming revenue of $5.1 billion. The federal tribal gaming regulator said there were 97 tribal gaming facilities in the segment.
