- Majority of people watching Super Bowl LX in regulated states and Ontario will be betting
- Study also revealed appetite among fans in non-regulated states to bet on Super Bowl
Last week it was the American Gaming Association projecting that Americans will be wagering $1.76 billion on Super Bowl LX. This week it’s a Paysafe study, with 51% of fans in U.S. states and Ontario where sports betting is regulated saying they will be betting online on the big game.

Another interesting research point to come out of the study, called All the Ways Players Pay: Super Bowl, was the appetite from Super Bowl watchers in California and Texas, as well as Canada’s Alberta province, that don’t offer regulated sports betting, to legally wager on future Super Bowls.
The new open, regulated Alberta igaming market is expected to go live some time this spring or summer.
$1.76 Billion Super Bowl Wagering
According to the study, 52% of fans in those U.S. states and Alberta are keen to bet on the big game when their markets go legal.
“Super Bowl LX is expected to generate a record $1.71 billion in legal wagers from the U.S. market alone, with an unprecedented betting volume also likely in Canada’s Ontario,” said Zak Cutler, President of Global Gaming at Paysafe, the payments platform provider.
“The game represents a massive growth opportunity for North American online sportsbooks, and our research indicates that operators that are laser-focused on their cashiers and streamlining the payment experience will give themselves an edge in a highly competitive market.”
27% Plan to Wager More Than Usual
Fans in the regulated markets of Florida, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Ontario were surveyed. The report also said 59% of them would be placing bets on game day and that 27% expect to bet more than usual.
Since it was a Paysafe study, they had to cover the payment platform angle – the top criteria for people choosing an online sportsbook was brand strength (43%) then streamlined payouts (37%). Cashing out a bet seamlessly was a big priority for people – more important than every other non-payment factor, including good odds (30%). Payment factors like rapid deposits (prioritized by 25%) and range of payment methods (24%) are other payment factors instrumental in how fans in regulated market choose sportsbooks.
