Ontario Gaming Market Sees Decrease in Revenue As Summer Slowdown Kicks In

Summer slowdown is now official, looking at the igaming market performance summary for June, released today by iGaming Ontario.

Ten Percent Decrease

According to iGaming Ontario market performance data just released, the province saw CAD $7.26 billion in total cash wagers, a 10% month over month decrease.

In June, revenue came in at CAD $307 million, a 9% month-over-month decrease.

Active player accounts dropped 5%, to 1.013 million. Average spend was down as well – a 4% decrease, to $303 per player.

Casino dominates, still – now an 88% market share in cash wagers, with CAD $6.4 billion (8% month over month decrease) in June wagers, and CAD $243 million in non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (79% market share, 6% month over month decrease).

Casino Market Share Increases

Sports betting saw CAD $768 million in cash wagers in June, a whopping 21% decrease from May, an 11% market share. On the NAGGR front the number was CAD $58.4 million, an 19% month-over-month decrease, with a 19% market share.

The revenue number represents total cash wagers, including rake fees, tournament fees, and other fees, across all operators, minus player winnings derived from cash wagers and does not take into account operating costs or other liabilities.

In terms of P2P poker, cash wagers were at CAD $132 million, an 8 per cent month over month decrease, and a 2% market share. NAGGR was at CAD $5.4 million, a 15% month-over-month decrease, and a 2% market share.

Active Player Accounts Drop

There are currently 50 licensed operators and 86 websites active in Ontario.
