According to a Wednesday announcement, the inaugural Mike Tyson Invitational will take place March 12–14 at the Radiant Brand Complex in Las Vegas. The event will bring together elite amateur competitors, Olympic hopefuls, coaches, sponsors, and media for a showcase Tyson hopes will help rebuild the country’s amateur boxing foundation.

“I’m deeply passionate about doing my part to reinvigorate amateur boxing in the United States,” Tyson said. “Amateur boxing isn’t just a pathway to the professional ranks –it’s a foundation for discipline, character, and becoming the best version of yourself. This sport gave me so much, and it’s important to me that amateur boxing continues to be recognized, supported, and preserved as part of our country’s legacy.”

The invitational is a curated, invite‑only event offering amateur fighters pro‑level exposure. Winners will receive championship belts, and one standout will earn Fighter of the Night honors.

The three‑day program opens Thursday, March 12, with an exclusive conversation led by Tyson, who will discuss discipline, mindset, and the lessons he’s taken from a career that has been as mythic as it has been turbulent.

On Friday, March 13, Tyson will host open workouts. Saturday, March 14, will feature the invitational bouts themselves, showcasing top amateur talent — including select Olympic hopefuls — in front of a live audience.

Additional details, including participating fighters, full schedule, and ticket information for the March 14 bouts, will be released in the coming weeks.

What Happens Ear Stays Ear

Few athletes are as woven into Las Vegas history as Tyson, an area resident whose highest career highs and lowest career lows have played out here:

  • In 1986, he became the youngest heavyweight champion in history at age 20 when he stopped Trevor Berbick at the Las Vegas Hilton.
  • He also fought his 1997 rematch with Evander Holyfield here at the MGM Grand. The “ear‑biting” fight remains one of the most notorious moments in sports history.

Las Vegas also had a hand in helping Iron Mike reinvent his career. In the 2009 blockbuster The Hangover, he successfully debuted as a comedic actor. (Although he really did live with tigers in a Las Vegas-area mansion at the time, his scenes were shot in California.)

Playing a parody of himself reframed Tyson from a fallen champion to a self‑aware icon capable of laughing at his own legend.
