  • A new study finds Las Vegas to be an ideal spot to celebrate Easter
  • While known for self-indulgence, Las Vegas offers plenty of holiday buffets
  • Southern Nevada is also home to dozens of churches and megachurches

Las Vegas is known as a place to let loose and overindulge, where what happens here, stays here. While many frequent visitors believe the destination is heaven on Earth, a new study finds that Las Vegas is a most fitting place for Christianity’s holiest time of the year.

Easter, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is the principal holiday of the Christian faith. A new report from WalletHub, a personal finance website that regularly publishes studies and insights on a variety of matters facing Americans, says Sin City is a perfect setting for an Easter to remember.

Las Vegas scored strong marks for its Easter weather and traditions, the latter entailing the number of restaurant options for a Sunday meal, the number of candy and chocolate stops, and the number of flower and gift shops.

While many visitors might be unaware, Las Vegas is also home to dozens of Christian churches, including nondenominational Evangelical megachurches like the Central Church in Henderson, International Church of Las Vegas, and Canyon Ridge.

The best cities for Easter cater to the religious nature of the holiday by offering plenty of opportunities for Christians to attend services, and they also provide the resources for people to have a great time with their family regardless of religious affiliation,” explained WalletHub analyst Chip Lupo.

“That means lots of places to get some sweet treats or dine out, as well as good weather conditions and nice open spaces for Easter egg hunts,” Lupo said.

Las Vegas Easter

Las Vegas has a smorgasbord of Easter buffets for Sunday, April 5.

The holiday specials featuring all-you-can-eat lobster, crab, prime rib, lamb, glazed ham, and all of the fixings, such as scalloped potatoes, roasted asparagus, and carrot cake, come at premium pricing. For example, The Buffet at Wynn Las Vegas and Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars Palace have special Easter pricing of around $100 per person.

Easter feasts might come at a premium, and reservations are going fast, but plenty of affordable casino hotel rooms in marquee Strip properties remain available. For a Friday to Monday stay, Wynn Las Vegas is $343 a night, the Bellagio is $311, and Caesars Palace is $276. The rates include resort fees but are before taxes.

Cheaper options on the Strip include Park MGM ($192), Planet Hollywood ($186), Resorts World Conrad ($153), the Flamingo ($146), Treasure Island ($93), and Excalibur ($106). Downtown, Circa is $174, the D is $79, and the Golden Gate runs $67.

Easter Spending

WalletHub expects Americans to spend $25 billion this Easter holiday, with $3.5 billion spent on candy alone.

With a troubling stock market and economic environment, the study also found that one in four US residents thinks “Easter is not going to be affordable this year.” Nearly one in three added that they “don’t feel confident about their finances heading into the spring.”
