  • Raiders announce they are shutting down Pro Bowler DE Maxx Crosby due to injury
  • New York Giants ML favourites against Raiders in Las Vegas tomorrow
  • NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights back in action tonight against Avalanche after Christmas break

The big development on the Las Vegas pro sports team betting front is the news the NFL’s Raiders shut down Pro Bowl defensive end Maxx Crosby for tomorrow’s crucial game at Allegiant Stadium against the New York Giants due to a knee injury.

Jay Glazer first reported that Crosby was none too pleased with the Raiders’ decision to shut him down, “vehemently disagreed” with the decision and left the Raiders’ facility. Tomorrow’s game will likely determine who finishes last in the NFL this season. That team would hold the No. 1 pick in this spring’s NFL Draft.

Las Vegas Gambling: Battle for the Bottom

Everyone who has been following the Raiders this season knows they need a quarterback, and sitting there waiting to be taken No. 1 is Heisman winner Fernando Mendoza at QB.

Said Raiders’ head coach Pete Carroll yesterday to the media: “[Crosby’s] been fighting it so hard for so long, fighting this thing for nine weeks, and each week he has done everything you could possibly imagine a guy could do to play and he’s been able to, and they’ve worked with them to get through it. But after an evaluation we did Monday or Tuesday, whenever it was, it just looks too bad.

He’d have been out there if we let him, and he would not have hesitated. He’s been fighting his ass off the whole time. But he knows that he’s banged up, so [he said] I would like to get out of here. And I said, yeah, get out of here. The competitor that he is … we’ve been talking about it for a couple days. It was exactly like you would think he would do, and he should do. And I agree with him 1,000% on how he responded. I get it. So hopefully we came to the right conclusion for his long-term betterment.”

Carroll was adamant he didn’t think there would be any problem in terms of the team’s relationship with the player and didn’t rule him out for the Raiders last game of the season against Kansas City. Crosby, who’s been with the Raiders for his entire seven-year career, is a five-time Pro Bowler, with 73 tackles and 10 sacks this season. He signed a three-year, $106.5 million extension with the Raiders in March.

Giants Slight Betting Favourites

So the chatter the Raiders were tanking with the Crosby decision to be in a better position to get their hands on the first overall pick started swirling. That and the requisite chatter about whether Crosby’s future is with the Raiders. The Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills were mentioned as potential destinations in this story.

Yeah, I don’t give a s— about the pick. I don’t play for that,” said Crosby earlier this week. “My job is to be the best defensive end in the world. That’s what I focus on every day, and being a great leader and being an influence. That’s [the front office’s] job. But that’s got nothing to do with me.”

Kick off for the Giants (2-13) versus the Raiders (2-13) is 4:05 p.m. EST tomorrow. Betting lines – DraftKings’ money line is Giants -142, Raiders +120. Spread is Giants -2.5 (-112), Raiders +2.5 (-108). At FanDuel the ML is Raiders -148, Raiders +126. Current ML at BetMGM is Giants -115 (53% of bets, 62% of handle), Raiders -105
