The Delaware Park Casino parking lot in Wilmington was reportedly the site of a brazen robbery and carjacking this past weekend.

The Delaware News Journal reports that Delaware State Police responded to the Thoroughbred horse racetrack and casino on Sunday night, March 8, around 10:30 pm.
A 911 call reported that two casino guests who were walking to their vehicles were approached by two armed men who exited from a dark-colored Nissan sedan. After handing the assailants cash, the individuals reportedly fled.
Shortly after, another individual said he too was approached by two men with guns. The assailants reportedly hit the person in the head with the handgun and stole the person’s keys.
The stolen vehicle was later recovered in Wilmington. The suspects, however, remain on the loose.
Stealing a vehicle at gunpoint is a Class B felony in Delaware, punishable by three to 25 years in state prison. Delaware State Police are asking anyone with information regarding the two alleged robberies to contact investigators at 302-365-8434 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
Casino Theft
With many gamblers exiting casinos with pockets full of cash, parking lot robberies, unfortunately, aren’t rare.
Last fall, Casino.org reported on a 60-year-old man who allegedly posed as a police officer outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino valet entrance. Legitimate police responded to the casino in Miami Gardens after the law enforcement poser jumped in a running Chevrolet Corvette and fled.
Police, however, managed to quickly apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen vehicle.
Delaware Park
Delaware Park has more than 1,800 slot machines, 40 live dealer table games, a poker room, and a sportsbook.
During the state’s 2025 fiscal year (July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025), the casino’s slot machines generated over $169.6 million in gross revenue from more than $1.97 billion in bets. That ranked first among the state’s three casinos. Delaware Park’s table games kept $83.7 million of the $109.9 million in wagers, which also topped the state gaming industry.
Delaware’s two other casinos are Bally’s Dover and Harrington Raceway & Casino.
Delaware Park finished a $10 million renovation in early 2024 that saw the entirety of the gaming floor renovated. New slot machines were brought in, and the dark carpets were replaced with a more colorful, cheerful décor. Additional table games were added, and a new rewards club was implemented.
Delaware Park additionally invested $5 million last year in an outdoor slots patio where smoking is permitted. Delaware’s smoking law prevents casino smoking.
