Boyd Gaming and its Valley Forge Casino Resort on Philadelphia’s Main Line is partnering with one of the Brotherly Love’s biggest sports icons in Sir Charles Barkley.

Las Vegas-based Boyd, which bought Valley Forge Casino Resort in 2018 for $280.5 million and has since invested more than $100 million in renovating and expanding the hotel casino, announced a partnership with Barkley on Tuesday to create a steakhouse and cigar lounge at the King of Prussia gaming destination. The casino said in a release to Casino.org that the chophouse will “fuse contemporary elegance with nods to Barkley’s storied career, featuring personal memorabilia and design elements that celebrate his unmistakable character and deep ties to the greater Philadelphia area.”
Next door, a humidor cigar lounge will evoke a club-like atmosphere. Private lockers and a fully stocked bar will complement the after-dinner space.
The Philadelphia area has always felt like home to me, and I’m thrilled to bring something new to a community that’s played such a big part in my life,” said Barkley. “We’re creating a spot that’s fun, comfortable, and full of personality. I want it to be the kind of place where people can unwind, share a great meal, and feel that same energy and connection that make this community so special.”
Boyd first announced in May its intent to bring a new steakhouse venue and cigar bar to Valley Forge. It comes as the casino overhauls its dining lineup in conjunction with the newly opened Food Hall. The casino is additionally renovating the Stardust Tower and hotel lobby.
Barkley, an 11-time NBA All-Star and 1993 league MVP, spent much of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Fitting Partner
Barkley developing a steakhouse and cigar bar at Valley Forge Casino Resort makes sense, as he remains wildly popular in the Philly region.
When asked by Casino.org if the Barkley steakhouse will replace the Revolution Chop House, a casino spokesperson said “plans are still under development” and will be shared later.
The Valley Forge Casino steakhouse with Barkley follows Boyd’s partnership with the “Inside the NBA” personality’s Redmont Distilling. Barkley co-owned the Alabama distillery that produces Redmont Vodka and Vulcan Gin. Boyd is rolling out the liquor brands across its entire portfolio.
To lend Barkley’s likeness to its Valley Forge Casino, Boyd has also pledged to make an annual contribution to the Charles Barkley Foundation, which supports historically black colleges and universities.
Casino Fables
Barkley aligning with a casino is one way he can get back at the house for the many millions of dollars he’s conceded that he’s lost at casinos over the years. Barkley said last year he’d like some of his cremated ashes to be spread “in a casino in Vegas.”
In 2007, Barkley estimated he lost $20 million gambling at casinos while he played for the 76ers. During his playing days, casinos were largely confined to Nevada, Atlantic City, and tribal casinos.
Barkley acknowledged that his gambling was a “bad habit” but not a problem because he could afford his losses.
