Las Vegas Messaging

With tourism in Las Vegas down this year, the Strip’s casino operators are aggressively marketing their businesses to change the narrative that the destination has priced out many patrons. From high resort fees and room rates to tighter odds on the casino floor, Las Vegas has been criticized in 2025 for seemingly price-gouging its customers.

Las Vegas visitor volume is down 7.6% through October, with about 2.64 million fewer people venturing to town. The tourism plunge has caused room rates to drop almost 4% during the week and 2% on the weekends.

Overall occupancy for Las Vegas’ more than 150K hotel rooms is 3% lower on the Strip to 83.7%. Strip casino hotels have averaged a nightly rate of $195.34, down almost 5% from $205.48.

Tourism experts, including Steve Hill, the chair of the Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA), have acknowledged that higher costs and fees have turned some away.

There’s an affordability aspect. There is a sensitivity to what our customers can afford that has been heightened because of the [economic] uncertainty,” Hill said at IndyFest, an annual gathering hosted by The Nevada Independent.

Hill said casinos are fixing things like a $25 bottle of water found in a hotel room minibar that caused a stir on social media.

“We need to fix those things. I think the properties are taking steps to do that,” Hill explained. “It takes a little bit of time.”
