VEGAS MYTHS BUSTED: The Strip’s ‘New’ Curfew

“No Kids After 10PM?” announced the “Las Vegas Tips” Facebook page on February 1, 2026. “New Las Vegas Law Sparks Debate … Where do you stand on this?”

This photo in this meme, displayed on a popular Las Vegas social media site, was generated by AI. If it were real, it would state the age at which the curfew applies. It also probably would not have misspelled the word “will” as “whil.” Probably. (Image: Facebook)

We had another Vegas myth slated to bust this morning, but tabled it as soon as we came upon this post last night. Bless the hearts of the more than 1,000 commenters who rushed in with hot takes like:

  • “It’s about damn time — kids shouldn’t be there period”
  • “Children do not belong where there’s drinking, naked people, gambling”
  • “We’ll see what kind of success they have enforcing this.”

Effort? What’s That?

We don’t expect most people to know that minors have been banned from the Strip late at night since 1948, when Harry S. Truman was in the White House and gas cost 26 cents a gallon.

What’s not forgivable, however, is not even bothering to Google or ask A.I. about Las Vegas’ “new curfew” before working one’s self into a comment-leaving lather.

We also have a hard time forgiving the asshats who present themselves as credible news sources while publishing fake news because it generates more clicks.

And asshats was not our first choice of word.

The Strip curfew has changed start times over the decades, but Las Vegas Tips’ post didn’t even bother getting the current one correct.

Minor Correction

On the Strip, it’s been 9 p.m. on weekends, holidays and summer break since 2013, when it was moved back from midnight. (LVMC 10.54.015). On school nights, the curfew remains 10 p.m.

Violations can earn a citation, fines up to $300, and/or temporary detention until a guardian arrives.

Nothing about this ordinance is new. And nothing about it bans children from the Strip entirely. The curfew applies only to unaccompanied minors. If someone under 18 is with a parent or legal guardian, the curfew does not apply. The same is true if they’re legally employed in the area — for instance, by a restaurant, theater or retail store.

These exceptions have been part of the law for decades and remain unchanged.

The only thing new here is the misinformation.
