  • Capt. Keegan Bradley has finalized Team USA
  • Bradley opted not to play in the September Ryder Cup at Bethpage
  • Team USA remains the betting favorite over Team Europe

Team USA remains the betting favorite for the 45th Ryder Cup Matches next month, though the host country’s front-runner status continues to shorten.

US Captain Keegan Bradley announced his six captain’s picks on Wednesday afternoon. He surprisingly passed over himself — he would have become the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963 — ultimately deciding that he best served the team by captaining only.

Some of Bradley’s picks came as little surprise. Justin Thomas was a near shoo-in, as was Collin Morikawa, who, despite going winless in 2024 and posting only four top-10 finishes, was the second man out of automatically qualifying for the biennial spectacle.

Ben Griffin, ranked ninth on the US Ryder Cup points list, three spots removed from receiving one of the six automatic qualifiers, was also named by Bradley. Maverick McNealy, Brian Harman, and Andrew Novak were passed over in favor of No. 14 Cameron Young, a New York native who is no stranger to Bethpage.

No. 15 Patrick Cantlay and 16 Sam Burns are back on Team USA to round out the squad that’s seeking to regain the Cup for the first time since 2021.

The six captain’s picks join the automatic qualifiers — Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.

Odds Lengthen

The home team has been favored in recent Ryder Cups, and with the match play event returning to US soil by way of Long Island, Team USA has long been favored for the September 25-28 showdown. However, as the competition has neared, oddsmakers have shifted their lines, as many bets have come in on Team Europe.

Last month, FanDuel had Team USA favored at -145. The implied odds of 59.2% would require a bettor to stake $145 to net $100 on a US victory. After Keegs’ captain picks, FanDuel has Team USA at -130. The odds imply a winning likelihood of 56.5%, with only $130 needed to net $100. Team Europe has shortened to +145, and a tie is at +1100. In the event of a tie, Europe would retain the Cup.

Team Europe — Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton — continues to close the betting gap.

Returning champion Captain Luke Donald will make his six captain’s picks on September 1. It’s a good bet that Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and Matt Fitzpatrick will be the six, as each played on the 2023 winning team and remains in good form.

If that is indeed Europe’s team, the entire team, aside from Hojgaard, would have Ryder Cup experience. By comparison, on Team USA, Spaun, Henley, Griffin, and Young are all first-timers.

US Favored Overseas

Ryder Cup odds can sometimes differ from the US to Europe, as bettors tend to bet on their home country. In 2025, however, sportsbooks in Europe and the UK have the US favored as well.

William Hill has Team USA at 8/11 (-138) and Team Europe at 11/8 (+138).
