PENN announced last month it was severing its partnership with ESPN, and rebranding ESPN BET, which operates in 20 US states plus Washington, DC, as theScore. PENN already owned theScore Bet in Canada, acquiring the Toronto-based sports media and betting company in 2021 in a US$2 billion cash and stock deal. Both entities have been natively integrated into one platform. Ravitz, who’s based in the US, will be overseeing all of it.

Ravitz was at ESPN for 17 years, most recently as SVP of digital content and audience expansion. Over at ESPN, he led content execution for the network’s mobile and streaming apps, ESPN.com, and other social media platforms.

Former ESPN Exec

“[I’m] thrilled to share that I’ve joined PENN Entertainment, Inc., as Head of theScore,” Kravitz posted on Linkedin. “In this new role, I am leading the Media business of Penn Interactive, overseeing Content, Ad Sales, and Growth. I’ve long admired what theScore has been able to build and achieve in the incredibly-competitive landscape of mobile sports apps.”

Kravitz added that couldn’t “be more honored to join the team and build on that great legacy.”

John Levy Weighs In

John Levy, former CEO and founder of theScore in Toronto, who left the company along with his sons in 2024, has been critical of PENN’s management decisions regarding the company, most notably speaking with Steve McAllister on “Gaming News Canada.”

Wow!!! Another ESPN guy and this one was at ESPN for nearly 20 years – that means he was there when theScore kicked ESPN’s digital ass years ago!!! Wishing you the best of luck Nate – I am around if you need any tips….,” Levy posted on Linkedin on Tuesday night.

Last summer, PENN announced major layoffs in the newsroom at theScore in Toronto, and last month, there were media reports that the company was trimming back its esports operation.
