- Tao Group Hospitality has applied for a permit to recreate Evel Knievel’s 1967 fountain jump at Caesars Palace
- The stunt will promote the grand opening of the 46,000-square-foot Omnia Dayclub & Skybar on May 16
- It will be the fourth attempt to jump the same fountains. Robbie Knievel, Evel’s son, completed the jump successfully in 1989, as did Travis Pastrana in 2018
The most iconic stunt in the history of the Las Vegas Strip may get a mulligan. Tao Group Hospitality — the global nightlife brand that plans to open the Omnia Dayclub & Skybar at Caesars Palace in May — has filed for a permit to celebrate the event by recreating Evel Knievel’s famous attempted 1967 motorcycle jump over the property’s fountains.

The permit, filed with Clark County and first reported by KLAS-TV/Vegas, requests a temporary closure of the sidewalk in front of the property from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, with the jump occurring around 2 p.m.
The stunt is part of a high-stakes launch for the Omnia, which began construction last year on the Strip directly in front of Caesars Palace. The new venue sits on a newly developed 46,000-foot space connected to the Omnia Nightclub by a dedicated bridge that creates a combined 121,000 square-foot mega-venue.

Déjà Jump
This would not be the first time Knievel’s famous stunt was reattempted. Robbie Knievel, his son, successfully completed the jump in 1989. And that was more than his father could claim.
The elder Knievel attempted to jump his motorcycle 141 feet over the fountains on Dec. 31, 1967, but made it only 140 feet. His botched landing launched his body into a somersault over the bike’s handlebars, then a 60-yard bouncing roll along the Dunes parking lot pavement next door.
Knievel suffered a crushed pelvis and femur, and fractures to his hip, wrist, and both ankles. The media reported that he nearly died and spent 29 days in a coma, but that was later exposed as a lie allegedly orchestrated by Caesars Palace owner Jay Sarno to maximize the event’s publicity.
In 2018, motorsports icon Travis Pastrana also successfully completed the same jump as part of the live “Evel Live” special on the History Channel.
No rider is identified in the permit application for the Omnia’s grand opening. However, a team from American Medical Response will definitely be in attendance.
