- The Buffalo Bills ran for 249 yards in a romp over the Pittsburgh Steelers
- Rough day for bettors with several big upsets on Thanksgiving Day
- Patriots’ QB Maye looks to polish MVP odds against lowly Giants on MNF
Those watching the Buffalo Bills (8-4) are breathing a little easier today, with the team featuring a run-dominated attack Sunday in their late afternoon 26-7 win in Pittsburgh against the Steelers, combined with big plays on defense, all to better compensate for the fact that they aren’t blowing people away with their wide receiver talent.

So, it seems it’s run or bust for the Bills this season, and man did they chew it up against the Steelers on Sunday – 249 yards on the ground, led by James Cook with 144. The big play was a Joey Bosa sack against Steelers’ QB Aaron Rodgers early in the third quarter, leading to a 17-yard fumble recovery and score by Christian Benford. That blew the game open.
Overall, Week 13 saw a few notable upsets.
“There is a heavy favorite (Patriots against the Giants) to close Monday night, so it’s a bit too early to tell … but not the best week of the season for bettors, barring a few really fancied dogs and the opposing of the usual suspects, Titans, Saints, Browns and Raiders,” said Joey Feazel, head of football at Caesars Sportsbook. “The later afternoon (yesterday) all went the bettors’ way with the three big favorites all covering the spreads to even up the day.”
Lousy Day for Bettors
The Packers, Panthers, and Bears were the three highlights for the book – all underdogs. The Bengals over the Ravens to close out Thanksgiving was strong for bettors.
At ESPN‘s NFL Football Power Index, the Patriots (10-2) have moved to the top of the board, with a projected won-loss of 12.7-4.3, followed by the 10-2 Broncos (12.7-4.3), the 9-3 Rams (12.1-4.9), the 9-3 Seahawks (11.8-5.2), 9-4 49ers (11.5-5.5), and the 8-4 Bills (11.3-5.7).
The Jags are in first place in the AFC South. The Bears are moving up in the NFC North. The Pack handled the Lions with relative ease. The Chiefs appear to be bowing out. The Rams came crashing back to earth in their loss to the Panthers on Sunday. The Broncos are turning into this generation’s cardiac kids, the latest chapter being their wild OT win Sunday night against the Commanders.
“The 49ers taking on a rookie QB (Shedeur Sanders) and the Browns is always the easiest recipe for any holiday betting chef, and every week we are Titans fans, almost every week we are on the wrong end of the decision,” Feazel added.
Bills Focus on Run Game
The Sporting News has the Bills at No. 7 in their power rankings Monday, up from No. 9 last week, after the team’s lackluster loss to the Texans in the Thursday night game.
Those bettors who placed a wager back on the New England Patriots in late August to win the Super Bowl must be rubbing their hands together in glee right now, with the Patriots at the top of the board in a variety of NFL power rankings after Week 13 games, including No. 1 in the aforementioned Sporting News rankings.
BetMGM had the Patriots at +8000 to win the Super Bowl back on August 26, generating just 1.3% of tickets and 0.7% of handle.
The biggest movers and shakers for Super Bowl futures betting at Caesars Sports on Monday are the Eagles (+680 to +875), Packers (14/1 to +950), Colts (+1050 to 14/1), Ravens (12/1 to 19/1), 49ers (33/1 to 22/1), Lions (12/1 to 25/1), Bears (65/1 to 30/1) and the Jaguars (55/1 to 30/1).
