- Super Bowl LIX, in New Orleans, most bet event at BetMGM in 2025
- Shohei Ohtani of the L.A. Dodgers most bet pro athlete
- Alex Pereira versus Magomed Ankalaev in UFC 313 in March (Ankalaev unanimous decision) most bet fight in 2025
Christmas is always an opportune time for people to look back at the year that was, highlights and lowlights, headline-makers and failures. Sportsbooks are no exception, looking back at the best games where customers won the most, most bet events, individual athletes who made the most money for bettors.

BetMGM‘s betting insights for 2025 do exactly that. Some of what they reveal are a surprise, others not so much. The dominance of the NFL in sports betting is no surprise.
2025 has been an exceptional year for our sportsbook,” said Don Forbes, BetMGM’s Senior Director of Trading. “The traditionally slower months this summer were anything but slow with book-friendly MLB outcomes helping propel us to record results.
“The favorable results combined with our commitment to offering competitive pricing on select NFL and college football games drove extremely strong customer engagement and handle growth, which makes our trading team very proud.”
Super Bowl was Most Bet Event
The highlights:
Super Bowl LIX, in New Orleans, where the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22, was the most bet event in 2025 (by tickets,), followed by the Buffalo Bills at the Chiefs AFC Championship game (Chiefs 32, Bills 29), and the Washington Commanders at Eagles NFL Championship game (Eales 55, Commanders 23). The NFL covered all the Top 10 most bet on events, actually.
By handle, it was Super Bowl LIX, Bills at Chiefs, and Commanders at Eagles.
Best Bets for Customers
That wild opening night Bills-Baltimore Ravens game in Buffalo this past September (Bills 41, Ravens 40) was the best game for bettors in 2025, followed by Game 4 of the American League Championship Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners, won by the Blue Jays 13-4. That was the game where the Jays hit five home runs, riding six innings of pitching by Shane Bieber, to get back into a series they would eventually win in seven games.
The Western Conference Final Game 6 between the Oklahoma Thunder and Denver Nuggets (Nuggets 119, Thunder 107) on the NBA end was the third best game for customers in 2025.
Best Bets for Sportsbook
Top 3 best games for the sportsbook in 2025 were the Chiefs-Eagles Super Bowl game, the NFC Wildcard game between the Minnesota Vikings and L.A. Rams (Rams 27, Vikings 9), and the Week 18 Sunday night game in January between the Detroit Lions and Vikings (Lions 31, Vikings 9).
Most bet combat sports matches (by tickets) in 2025 were led by Alex Pereira versus Magomed Ankalaev in UFC 313 in March (Ankalaev unanimous decision), Dricus Du Plessis versus Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 319 in August (Chimaev unanimous decision), and Max Holloway versus Dustin Poirier at UFC 318 in July (Holloway unanimous decision).
Most Bet Players
Not surprisingly, MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani of the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers was the most bet player (by tickets)) in 2025, followed by Eagles running back Saquon Barkley and Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge. The most profitable players for the customer in 2025 were Terry McLaurin of the Washington Commanders, DeAndre Hopkins of the Chiefs/Ravens, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles and Nathan MacKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche.
McLaurin, Hopkins, Hurts, MacKinnon and Jake Tonges of the San Francisco 49ers were the most profitable players for the book in 2025.
