- Bears surprising No. 1 seed in NFC
- Huge showdown Sunday with Bears in Green Bay to take on second-place Packers
- Super Bowl futures see Bears shift from +8000 to +3000
In an NFL season that’s seen its share of eyebrow raising stories – the emergence of the New England Patriots, the averageness of the AFC North, the Kansas City Chiefs currently out of the playoff picture, the rise of the Denver Broncos – perhaps the biggest is the emergence of the Chicago Bears, currently the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Sportsbook are scrambling to adjust. The Bears (9-3) took out the Philadelphia Eagles (8-4) 24-15 off a vintage rushing performance last Friday during the holiday weekend – Kyle Monangai rushing for 130 yards and a touchdown and D’Andre Swift running for 125 yards and a score, Chicago finishing with 281 rushing yards for their fifth win in a row.
Eagles fans were so put off a group of them egged the house of Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. This Sunday is the showdown in Green Bay, with the first place Bears taking on the 8-3-1 Packers, just behind them in the NFC North.
Bills Most Bet
If you were betting Super Bowl futures at BetMGM back on Aug. 26 before the season began, the Bears were at +4000 (2.3% of tickets, 1.8% of handle). On Sept. 10, after Week 2, the Bears were -350 to miss the playoffs, the Patriots were -250 to not make it.
Today at BetMGM the Bears are at +3000 to win the Super Bowl.
“Over the past few weeks, the Bears’ odds have shifted dramatically, from a high of +8000 down to +3000. Ben Johnson and the Bears have been on an incredible winning streak, and bettors were quick to jump on the team at those longer prices,” said Joey Feazel, Head of Football at Caesars Sportsbook.
Packers Betting Favourite
“Now sitting as the No. 1 team in the NFC, the next few weeks will be pivotal in determining whether the Bears are true Super Bowl contenders or simply pretenders.”
The Packers are the big betting favourite at Caesars for Sunday’s game: -310 on the ML, the Bears at +245 (spread is the Packers -6.5, -113, with the Bears +6.5, -107).
At Caesars Sportsbook, top teams in terms of Super Bowl futures bettings are the Bills +1050 (11.73%), Chiefs +1800 (9.35%), Eagles +900 (8.5%), Ravens +1700 (7.88%), Lions +2500 (7.63%), and the 49ers +2200 (7.28%).
Huge Showdown
The Bears are also a popular pick at theScore Bet (formerly ESPN BET), with the second-most bets and third-most handle to win the Super Bowl in that time.
“We’ve seen strong support for the Patriots in the Futures market over the last month, as bettors have moved to back the hottest team in the league,” said Adrian Horton, Senior Director, North American Sports Trading, theScore Bet. “New England has drawn the most Super Bowl Winner bets and handle over the last 30 days.
“While the Patriots are gaining some traction with our users, in the overall market, it’s still the Chiefs, Eagles, Bills, Ravens and Lions at the top.”
Patriots Top Seed in AFC
The Patriots are currently +1000 to win the Super Bowl at theScore Bet, 5th best odds, after opening +7500. The Bears are currently +3000 and opened at +5000.
The Patriots have already well surpassed their preseason win total, which was set at 7.5. The Bears also passed their win total (8.5) with last week’s win over the Eagles.
Also, at theScore Bet over the last month, in terms of Super Bowl winners:
- Patriots – 18.9% of bets, 20% of handle
- Eagles – 4.9% of bets, 17.7% of handle
- Bears – 10.5% of bets, 10.2% of handle
- Bills – 7.5% of bets, 9.3% of handle
- Broncos – 6.7% of bets, 5.1% of handle
With Green Bay beating Detroit on Thanksgiving, the Bears have an easier path to the playoffs. The Bears play the Packers twice before the end of the regular season.
At DraftKings, a spokesperson told Casino.org the Bears are the second most bet team to win the Super Bowl over the past week.
