In the event of a tie, the bets are left on the table and paid out the following hand.     This is a faster-paced game played with a single deck. The objective is to get the highest-scoring hand (and not necessarily closest to nine). The player and banker get three cards each, with no option for additional cards. Winning player bets pay 97:100 (with a 3% house edge), a winning tie bet pays out 25:1. And any additional bets on the dealer’s points total, if correct, will pay out 8:1.

    This is a simpler, two-card version of baccarat played similarly to punto banco. The player and banker (dragon and tiger) receive just one card each, with the aim of having the higher value card of the two. Players bet on which card wins, or on a tie. There are also additional side bets, for example on the likelihood of a suited tie. A winning bet pays out 1:1 with a 3.73% house edge. Tie bets pay out the usual 8:1, but be wary of the house edge on these bets, as it’s a very high 32.77%

    What are the rules of baccarat?

    The aim is to bet on which hand will come closest to 9. Each player starts with two cards each. These are then summed together by the dealer. If necessary, another card will be drawn according to the 'third card rules'. The winning hand is the one that has a total of 9, or 8 if no hand reaches a 9. 

    What are third card rules for baccarat?

    A third card is drawn if either the player or banker doesn't have a total of 8 or 9 (this is also known as a 'natural'). A player draws a third card if the initial two-card hand totals 0-5. However, the rules for the banker are much more complex. For example:
    • If the banker's hand is 0-2, they draw a third card
    • If the banker's hand is 3, they draw a third card (unless the player's third card is an 8)
    • If the banker's hand is 4, they draw a third card if the player's third card is 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7
    • If the banker's hand is 5, they draw a third card if the player's third card is 4, 5, 6 or 7
    • If the banker's hand is 6, they draw a third card if the player's third card is 6 or 7
    • If the banker's hand is 7, they must stand

    Nine is always the highest and 0 is always the lowest hand in baccarat. When your hand goes above 9, you need to add your cards together and only take the right-hand number. For example, if you have a 7 and 8, your score would total 15 – this would then become 5. Other card values you need to know are:

    • 2-9 carry their face value
    • 10, J, Q, K are equal to 0
