- Police in Florida say a 60-year-old man tried to steal a Corvette at Hard Rock Hollywood
- The suspect has a lengthy rap sheet, including previous theft charges
A 60-year-old Florida man who allegedly posed as a police officer tried to steal a Chevrolet Corvette at a Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino valet entrance on Monday afternoon.

Officers with the Seminole Police Department’s Hollywood command were on-site Monday afternoon, around 3:30 pm EST, when valet workers yelled for help. The parking attendants told the police officer on standby that a man wearing a polo shirt with Florida Department of Corrections insignias had quickly jumped in a running Corvette and fled.
That’s not his car!” an attendant reportedly screamed toward the police officer.
The Seminole Police officer quickly moved his cruiser to block the Corvette from exiting the casino property. The driver, later identified as Angel Emilio Diez, 60, of Miami Gardens, was seen discarding a marijuana joint.
Diez reportedly told police that he acquired the Florida Department of Corrections shirt from a thrift store and was not impersonating a man of the law.
Theft Thwarted
Prosecutors in Broward County brought four charges against Diez, including grand theft auto, impersonating a law enforcement officer, trespassing, and tampering with physical evidence. The grand theft auto, impersonation, and tampering charges are each class three felonies.
The trespassing charge stems from Seminole Hard Rock previously banning Diez for life from the casino resort. The tampering charge stems from Diez allegedly trying to conceal the marijuana cigarette during the arrest.
Diez remains in Broward County’s Main Jail. He was initially held on $3,750 bond, but court records show the bond offering was revoked. The records do not list an upcoming court hearing.
Diez has a lengthy rap sheet. In November 2023, he was found guilty on a third-degree felony charge for the criminal use of a personal identification and misdemeanor petit theft. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor petit theft again last year, but never showed up in court.
During Diez’s alleged theft of the Corvette at Seminole Hard Rock, police said he had an outstanding warrant stemming from the 2024 charge.
Possible Prison Time
If found guilty of the grand auto theft charge, and with Hard Rock’s heavy camera surveillance likely to play a role in the prosecution’s case, Diez could face years behind bars. Florida statute classifies all forms of motor vehicle theft as “grand theft auto” regardless of the value of the vehicle stolen.
A person found guilty of grand theft of the third degree faces up to five years in prison. The charge could be elevated to a second or first-degree felony, as F3 grand theft charges are typically reserved for thefts of items valued up to $20K.
Police didn’t detail the year, trim, or condition of the black Corvette Diez is alleged to have stolen.
