- Does the NFL league office take action and suspend Diggs?
- Patriots have clinched first in the AFC East
New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been hit with a felony charge of strangulation plus a misdemeanour charge of assault over an alleged incident that happened earlier this month.

A hearing took place at the Dedham District Court in Massachusetts court this morning. An arraignment for Diggs has been scheduled for Jan. 23. The AFC Championship Game is scheduled for Jan. 25, provided the Pats make it that far.
According to the police report, summarized here, the incident in question happened Dec. 2, when a woman, working as a private chef for Diggs, was allegedly smacked across the face by Diggs after a discussion about money owed to her. When she pushed Diggs away, he allegedly tried to choke her with his elbow around her neck and threw her onto a bed. The woman originally wasn’t going to press charges when she informed the police of the incident Dec. 16 but changed her mind Dec. 22.
Arraignment Jan. 23
Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur. The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law,” said Diggs’ attorney David Meier.
Diggs’ defence team added the two sides are working on a monetary settlement.
According to the NFL: “We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club. We have no further comment at this time.”
League Office Action?
What the NFL decides to do is of course very relevant to the Patriots’ odds as the NFL playoffs draw near. A suspension would have a huge impact. As detailed here, there’s past precedent in terms of the league office taking action. Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List in October 2024 over domestic violence and drug charges, meaning he was prohibited from taking part in games and practices. He was reinstated in November that year, was acquitted of assault charges in a January 2025 trial (agreeing to probation on the drug charge), and was released by the team in August 2025.
Diggs, in his first season with the Patriots, has been impactful for a team that has now clinched first in the AFC East, at 13-3. He’s one of the team’s top receivers – 970 yards on 82 catches, 11.8-yard average, and four touchdowns. Diggs signed with the Patriots on a three-year, $69 million contract in March. New England wraps up the regular season this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins.
Patriots’ Super Bowl Odds
According to DraftKings this afternoon, the Patriots are +900 to win the Super Bowl, behind the Seattle Seahawks (+475), L.A. Rams (+550), Denver Broncos (+700), and San Francisco 49ers (+850). According to BetMGM today, the Patriots saw the most dramatic Super Bowl line movement (Open to Now) – +12500 to +900.
In a strange coincidence today, Diggs’ brother, Trevon, a Pro Bowl cornerback, was released by the Dallas Cowboys.
