  • Grant Udinski now the front runner for Buffalo Bills’ head coaching job
  • Philip Rivers pulls himself out of the running
  • According to reporting four remaining head coaching positions will be filled this week

If ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter’s reporting is to be believed, most, if not all of the four remaining NFL coaching vacancies will be filled by this week. That includes the Buffalo Bills situation, which was updated again today with the news that Philip Rivers had withdrawn his name from consideration for the job.

According to up-to-date FanDuel Canada odds, Grant Udinski has emerged as the betting favourite for the Bills job, at -180. Brian Daboll, who had the shortest odds up until today, is now at +210, followed by Davis Webb at +380, Klint Kubiak at +470, Joe Brady +850, Anthony Lynn +1400, Jonathan Gannon +1900, and Bill Belichick +1900.

Udinksi Betting Favourite for Bills Job

Rivers was interviewed by the Bills Friday, even though he had never coached before at the professional or collegiate level. The Hall of Fame-bound quarterback then pulled his name from contention after that.

Today, names were dropping like yesterday’s snowflakes for the Bills’ job. Schefter reported today the Bills had interviewed L.A. Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase for the job. Brady, the current Bills’ current offensive coordinator, and Udinski have interviewed already.

So has Daboll, who was the Bills offensive coordinator before leaving to take over as New York Giants head coach in 2022. He was fired last fall. But Daboll has a long, positive relationship with Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen. That’s why he is a betting favourite.

Daboll Former Bills’ Offensive Coordinator

Anthony Weaver, Dolphins defensive coordinator, is reportedly going to be interviewed. So reportedly will Denver Broncos passing game coordinator Webb, as well as Lynn, Washington Commanders’ run game coordinator.

The biggest news though was that Udinski, the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars, withdrew from consideration for the Cleveland Browns opening, while he still pursues the Bills job. Schefter was reporting that Udinski had also agreed to a new contract with the Jaguars, which includes a raise, all waiting there for him if he doesn’t get the Bills job.

Lawrence Among NFL’s Best

Udinski is credited with working well with Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who finished the season with career highs in touchdown passes (29) and total touchdowns (38). Only MVP candidate Matthew Stafford and Josh Allen had more total touchdowns, 46 and 39 respectively.

Udinski is just 30 – the same age as Josh Allen. The success of Mike MacDonald, 38, who has built an impressive winning culture in Seattle with the Seahawks, with that team heading to play in Super Bowl LX on Feb. 8, has put young coaches back in the spotlight.

As of today, the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Arizona Cardinals, and the Bills are still searching for a head coach.
