The back-and-forth debate of whether Conor McGregor will ever fight UFC again goes on, while he continues to make waves outside the Octagon.

Diaz Expresses Interest in UFC Return
McGregor has said he intends to run for the Ireland presidency. He met with President Donald Trump in the Oval Office. He launched an Irish whiskey brand in 2018 but split from that after being found liable in a civil sexual assault case. He co-owns the Bareknuckle Fighting Championship, sanctioned by state athletic commissions in the U.S., and has been out there promoting it. BKFC recently announced a new promotion featuring sanctioned hockey fights on ice – full hockey equipment with MMA gloves, on a 900 square foot ice rink. He’s been bullish on Bitcoin. He bought pubs. He’s launched a new line of cigars.
But there’s been nothing recently from McGregor or UFC CEO Dana White on a return to UFC.
Rubber Match?
In an interview on The HJR Podcast this weekend, Nate Diaz, who fought McGregor twice, each fighter with a win, said he wants to go back to UFC “if they’ll have me,” but not at 155 pounds.
Me and him have unfinished business,” he said, talking about McGregor.
An Instagram post this weekend by McGregor that he’s negotiating to buy subscription-based adult entertainment site OnlyFans just adds to the fire. OnlyFans is reportedly on the block for USD $8 billion. OnlyFans’ gross revenue was a record USD $6.63 billion for the 2023 fiscal year.
Whether McGregor has the money or backing to put that together, who knows. Online reporting has pegged his net worth around USD $200 million.
No Props on McGregor Comeback
The more web and social media chatter spreads the further McGregor seems from any UFC return.
McGregor’s last UFC fight was UFC 264 in July 2021 in Las Vegas when his broke his leg against Dustin Poirier. Last time McGregor and Diaz fought was UFC 202 in August 2016 in Las Vegas with McGregor winning a five-round decision, a rematch after Diaz had beaten McGregor by submission the previous March. McGregor has said publicly in the past he “owes” Diaz a fight.
McGregor was booked to return against Michael Chandler last summer but that fight got cancelled after McGregor suffered a broken toe. A big non-UFC fight with Logan Paul seemingly fell through. White has said in the past he expects a McGregor return.
Any props on sportsbook platforms featuring a McGregor return have gone away, it seems.
He doesn’t seem to be actively rumoured of a comeback,” said Mark Collier, a trader with BetVictor. “I compare it to Tyson Fury in boxing terms. At least Fury is still in training and waiting for the right purpose to fight/return. McGregor looks more interested in the Irish presidency and even talks of buying OnlyFans. I think there’s more chance of him boxing a Mike Perry or fake boxing against one of the Paul brothers before he is seriously considered for MMA.
“But stranger things have happened. I just can’t see him fighting for the UFC anytime soon. I’m still waiting for the Jon Jones/Tom Aspinall fight to happen but Jones has thrown out more retirement hints.”
