- The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle will reopen on Friday, October 3
The Kickapoo Lucky Casino Hotel in Eagle Pass will soon reopen following a deadly mass shooting at the Texas tribal casino resort that left two people dead and five others injured.

The casino owned and operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas plans to reopen on Friday, October 3, at 10 am local time. The resumption of gaming comes five days after a 34-year-old man opened fire inside the casino, gunning down a retired US Customs and Border Patrol Agent and a Dimmit County resident.
Keryan Jones remains in custody on a $4.5 million bond. A judge placed $1.5 million bond on each capital murder charge, and $300K per aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge.
A motive remains unknown. Law enforcement says Jones is in solitary confinement.
Casino Reopening Plan
The Kickapoo Lucky Casino will turn its more than 3,300 slot-like electronic bingo machines back on Friday morning. The facility additionally offers bingo and poker, a 249-room hotel, an RV lot, a live music venue, five restaurants, and three bars.
As we reopen, we are committed to supporting our team, our guests, and are grateful for the strength of our community. We look forward to seeing everyone,” the casino’s webpage reads.
Witnesses to the late Saturday night shooting say Jones began spraying bullets around 11:45 pm. The casino was busier than normal due to a day-long promotion that culminated with the giving away of a Mercedes-Benz E350. Free gaming credit was awarded throughout the day, and one lucky player won a $3,500 cash prize at 11:45 pm.
After the shooting, police say Jones fled in a black Nissan Frontier. Law enforcement tracked the vehicle using license plate scanners. Jones was apprehended at 7:40 am on Sunday at the Circle K in Stockdale, east of San Antonio, a roughly three-hour drive from Eagle Pass. Jones was arrested following a high-speed chase that involved multiple police cruisers and the exchange of gunfire.
Jones’ victims included retired customs and border agent Marcus Antley, 66, and Alicia Sanchez, 32, a mother of five.
University Health in San Antonio said it received two patients involved in the Lucky Eagle Casino shooting — a 22-year-old female and a 59-year-old female. The 22-year-old has since been released. The older woman remains hospitalized, but is in “fair condition.”
‘Angry-Looking Guy’
Neighbors of Jones in a San Antonio apartment complex say he wasn’t approachable or friendly.
I was like, ‘I know exactly who that is,'” Isabella Markert, a neighbor of Jones, told KSAT. “I don’t specifically know him, but I’ve seen him walk around. He’s a very angry-looking guy.”
Jones lived at the Tuscany Park Apartments in San Antonio. Rents for a one-bedroom, one bathroom start at $717, according to the property’s website.
