Caesars Virginia is leasing 600 square feet of retail space to the City of Danville for $2,000 a month. City officials say the space will house a welcome center that will promote all that the south-central Virginia town has to offer.

Caesars Entertainment and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians opened the $750 million integrated resort casino last December. The 90K-square-foot casino with 1,451 slot machines, 100 live-dealer table games, a World Series of Poker room, and a Caesars Sportsbook is complemented by a 320-room hotel, 50K square feet of convention and event space, and a 2,500-seat theater. The destination additionally includes a full-service spa, an outdoor pool, a variety of dining options, and a handful of retail boutiques.
One retail space, located near the entrance to the pool and spa, is being leased to Danville, where the city will market things to do off the casino property.
We wanted to find a way to better connect with [Caesars Virginia guests]. We understand that they will stay and play in the casino and enjoy all of the amenities there, but also we want to introduce them to what else the community and the region have to offer,” Corrie Bobe, Danville’s director of economic development and tourism, told ABC 13 News.
Caesars has offered the small space on a month-to-month basis, with rent at $2,000.
Economic Driver
Danville was earmarked for a casino privilege through state legislation passed in 2020. Danville voters subsequently authorized the Caesars/EBCI development through a local referendum that same year.
Virginia’s casino statute was designed to provide cities and towns with an economic boost. Caesars Virginia is already providing dividends for the city government and its residents.
In April, Casino.org reported that local tax revenue would be used to offset utility rate increases. The casino has also increased K-12 public school funding, helped move power lines underground, and built a public splash pad at the Third Avenue Park.
Caesars funds also helped provide an $845K upgrade to the Danville Police Headquarters, $800K to blight initiatives, and over half a million dollars to promote tourism to the city.
Caesars Leads Virginia Gaming Industry
Three permanent casinos have opened in Virginia, and Caesars is so far the market leader in terms of gross gaming revenue (GGR).
In June, Caesars Virginia reported GGR of more than $30.5 million from its slots and table games. Rivers Casino Portsmouth was second at $26.5 million, and Hard Rock Bristol was third at $21.4 million.
Virginia’s gaming market is set to increase to five properties when temporary casinos in Norfolk and Petersburg open.
In Norfolk, Boyd Gaming is leading a $750 million development through a partnership with the Pamunkey Indian Tribe. In Petersburg, Cordish Companies and Bruce Smith Enterprise are embarking on a $600 million investment called Live! Casino & Hotel Virginia.
Along with brick-and-mortar casinos, Churchill Downs maintains a monopoly on slot-like historical horse racing machines in the commonwealth. The company uses those privileges to operate The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries and off-track betting and HHR parlors under the Rosie’s brand. Virginia also has online sports betting.
