“Mamma Mia!” Returns to Las Vegas at Tropicana

The popular stage musical, “Mamma Mia!,” will return to the Las Vegas Strip in spring 2014 for an open-ended run at the Tropicana.

The show previously ran on The Strip for six years at Mandalay Bay, with more than 2,200 performances. The show has been running for 12 years on Broadway. There was also a “Mamma Mia!” movie from which audiences have yet to recover.

“Mamma Mia!” is a known quantity and an undeniable hit, featuring the music of ABBA, including classics like “Dancing Queen,” “The Winner Takes It All,” “Money, Money, Money” and “Take a Chance on Me.”

ABBA, of course, is one of the most popular groups in pop history, ruling the charts worldwide from 1972 to 1982. As such, Las Vegas isn’t done milking that disco-fueled cow quite yet.

The show will happen in the newly-renovated Tropicana Theater.

“Mamma Mia!” at the Tropicana is written by Catherine Johnson, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and choreographed by Anthony Van Laast. Other people you also haven’t heard of are likely to be involved in the production.

If you’re up for a Broadway-style show where you already know all the lyrics, “Mamma Mia!” might just be the show for you.
