Virgin Sportsbook Employee Robs Workplace, Returns the Next Day for Arrest

When the TV series “America’s Dumbest Criminals” ended in 2000, it left a void in the marketplace for lawbreaker dumbassery.

Never fear, however. Crooks in Las Vegas will always rise to the occasion, and we will always pass their felonious stupidity along to you.

In this case, an asshat recently robbed the sportsbook at Virgin. It was an employee of the sportsbook. The employee reported for work the next day. He was identified and arrested. That’s not even the dumbest part. LFG.

This is not a real image from the actual robbery. The fact we need to say that is just very sad.

So, last week, we heard from an inside source that Virgin’s William Hill Sportsbook had been robbed to the tune of about $28,000.

The thief, wearing a mask, held up the sportsbook with a knife.

The first twist: It turns out the crook was a new employee of the sportsbook.

How do we know this? Well, that’s where it gets deeply dumb.

The alleged numbnuts decided to don his mask in one of Virgin’s restrooms. At first glance, not a dumb move at all, as restrooms are one of the few places in a casino without surveillance cameras.

So, he strolls into the restroom (caught on camera), then walks out of the restroom in his mask (also caught on camera).

If Virgin were teeming with guests, it may have been more difficult for security and law enforcement to connect the dots, but we’re told it took investigators upward of 12 minutes to figure out who the culprit was.

Apprehension of the thief was made easier by the fact he turned up for work the following day.

When he was arrested, the doofus had a backpack containing (wait for it) the mask and knife used in the theft.

Oh, and most of the stolen cash.

Sigh.

You will never guess the name of our band in high school.

We feel sort of bad for the guy. Let’s just say his hammock probably doesn’t reach both trees.

The knucklehead involved is looking at some serious time.

In Nevada, robbing a sportsbook by threatening someone with a knife is a felony. Robbery itself is a category B felony, punishable by two to 15 years in state prison, regardless of how much money was taken. Using or threatening with a knife can trigger Nevada’s deadly-weapon enhancement. That adds a separate, consecutive prison term of one to 20 years.

On the bright side, nobody was hurt in the robbery.

Maybe jail time is exactly what the assclown needs to think about his life decisions and future career because he’s never going to work in the casino business again.

The sportsbook at Virgin has been cursed for some time. Virgin casino (technically Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, despite the fact there’s only one) opened on March 25, 2021. The plan was for Betfred to operate the sportsbook, which only happened years later due to some serious WTF. William Hill took over on Nov. 20, 2025. It’s been a dumpster fire. And now its own employee robs the place, a turn of events both terrible and glorious.
