Resorts World Confirms Closure of Poker Room

A Resorts World official has confirmed the resort’s poker room will close on March 30, 2026. The Resorts World poker room has been in operation since the resort opened on June 24, 2021.

This news follows closely on the heels of another poker room closure at Planet Hollywood.

This leaves just eight poker rooms on the Las Vegas Strip, or 17 if you include the rest of the Las Vegas Valley. More than half (54.83870967741935% to be exact) of poker rooms in Las Vegas have closed since 2000. We blame F1.

Much like a G-sport, the Resorts World poker room wasn’t easy to find.

Word of the closure was first shared by poker player Chris Murray, who organizes a regular game at Resorts World.

Honestly, we didn’t know individuals could organize games at casinos, but we are not a poker person.

We reached out to Resorts World after Murray’s Tweet and the news was officially confirmed.

A Resorts World rep said, “We can confirm that the poker room will close on March 30. We look forward to introducing new offerings that reflect our continued commitment to dynamic, high-quality experiences.”

News of the Resorts World poker room closing doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, mainly because there’s an us. We got wind of the looming decision to fold the room back in November 2025. Should’ve taken the over, but our source was pretty close on the timing.

How do we always seem to know so much about things we know little to nothing about?

This is not the time to heap praise upon us. The closure of the Resorts World poker room is very upsetting to a good number of people, let’s not be distracted by our omniscience.

We’ve covered this ground pretty frequently, but there’s a reason casinos are opting out of hosting poker.

Primarily, poker rooms don’t make a lot of money.

Poker rooms are an amenity, like sportsbooks, spas, local phone calls and escorts.

Unlike with other forms of gambling, poker isn’t played against the casino. It’s player vs. player, which means casinos only take a “rake,” or a commission on every hand.

As the French say, poker rooms are “un festival de saucisses.” Yes, we could’ve just said “sausagefest,” but then you would know exactly zero French and you’d be a lot less popular at parties.

The simple truth is table games and slots make more per square foot than poker. Sometimes, like in the case of Resorts World, a busy hot dog stand makes more per square foot than a poker room.

Poker rooms have pretty heavy labor costs, too. Casinos don’t always see the ROI.

While poker rooms have been on the wane, tournaments like the World Series of Poker continue to attract large fields of entrants and award massive prize pools. This year’s event happens May 26 to July 15, 2026.

It’s likely some closed poker rooms could reopen to accommodate play during the WSOP, and by some we mean the one at Planet Hollywood because they pretty much told us that’s the plan.

The remaining poker rooms on The Strip are: Aria, Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Horseshoe, Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Westgate and Wynn.
