UPDATE: 1:45 pm EST:
Police say the shooting was targeted. An assailant approached a man sitting in the food court and immediately shot him. A second man was grazed with a bullet.
The casino and the rest of MGM National Harbor remain open. Police said the casino is “a large area” and there’s no need to shutter the business since the crime scene is limited to the National Market.
The shooter, police said, left the resort in a vehicle.
“The casino is safe, the Harbor is safe,” said Prince George’s County Chief of Police George Nader.
UPDATE 1:35 pm EST:
Police believe the shooting wasn’t random, but targeted. Law enforcement continues to search for the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene. There is no motive. The investigation remains active. The identity of the shooter hasn’t yet been made public.
Police are responding to a live incident at MGM National Harbor, where initial reports suggest at least two people were shot.

The X account for the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) reports that there is a shooting investigation at the casino resort that’s run by MGM Resorts International.
Detectives and officers are on the scene of a shooting at MGM National Harbor. We are gathering information that will be shared once confirmed,” the X account posted.
Arriving media have been directed to a designated parking lot. There’s no word on when a briefing might be held.
Food Court Alleged Site
Initial reports from the casino suggest that the incident occurred near the resort’s National Market food court. Gunshots were reported around 11:55 am local time on Wednesday.
The food court is located on the main casino level next to the BetMGM Sportsbook. When police officers arrived moments after the shots rang out, they reportedly found a shooting victim who was pronounced dead on the scene.
Another shooting victim is reportedly wounded but is expected to survive.
MGM National Harbor is in Oxon Hill, Md., across the Potomac River from the nation’s capital. Washington, DC, was in the headlines over the Thanksgiving holiday when two National Guard members from West Virginia were attacked with gunfire by an Afghan national.
One of the guardsmen, 20-year-old Sarah Beckstrom, later died. The other victim, 24-year-old Andrew Wolfe, remains in critical condition but is showing “positive signs,” said West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R).
Prince George’s County has historically struggled with high crime rates, though major improvements in violent crime and car hijackings have been experienced in 2025. Crime rates remain elevated in PGC neighborhoods inside the Capital Beltway, including Oxon Hill.
