The tribal casino owned and operated by the Kickapoo Traditional Tribe of Texas reports that a lucky guest visiting from San Antonio, which is about a two and a half hour’s drive from the city’s downtown, won a progressive jackpot worth $1,256,808.56. The hit came on Sunday, June 15, or Father’s Day.

The lucky winner wished to remain anonymous, with the tribal casino only making his initials, R.M., public.

R.M. of San Antonio turned a Sunday spin into a life-changing jackpot,” the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel posted on its social media channels. “Million-dollar wins don’t just happen in movies. They happen right here at Kickapoo Lucky Eagle where we are home to many life-changing million-dollar jackpots.”

The Lucky Eagle Casino Hotel is the Kickapoo’s primary economic engine that helps the tribe maintain its sovereignty. The tribal casino has over 3,300 electronic gaming machines, a 249-room hotel, a 20-spot RV park, an event and live music lounge, and five restaurants and bars.

The federally recognized tribe additionally operates a Shell gas station and the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Convenience Store, both of which are near the casino. The tribe’s sovereign lands are along the Rio Grande and the Mexican border.

Class I and II Gaming

Texas lawmakers have long refused to enter into Class III gaming compacts to allow the state’s three federally recognized tribes to operate traditional slot machines and live-dealer table games. As a result, the tribes can only offer Class I and II gaming as defined by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), a federal law enacted in 1988 that governs Indian gaming.

Class II gaming includes bingo, and over the decades, gaming manufacturers have designed clever bingo-based gaming terminals that look, feel, and sound like Las Vegas slots. Instead of a random number generator behind each slot determining if a spin wins or loses, electronic bingo machines calculate payouts based on an instantly simulated bingo game.

That isn’t to say big payouts can’t be won, as made evident by this past Sunday’s more than $1.2 million hit in Texas. R.M. was playing a penny game manufactured by Light & Wonder.

L&W’s 1,000,000 Degrees Stars and Bars was the bingo machine that paid out big. Though a penny machine, R.M. was max betting 400 credits a spin, or $4. 1,000,000 Degrees Stars and Bars is a wide-area progressive or WAP.

No Celebration?

The Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino Instagram post on the life-altering jackpot win included a video of the spin hitting the progressive jackpot. Oddly, the player was dead silent throughout.

No one is yelling or screaming?” asked one Instagram comment.

“Was he asleep?” asked another.

Seems fishy,” added yet another Lucky Eagle follower. “He recorded his spin and hit big but was quiet? Seems fake.”

“What happened to all the excitement? No yelling, no screaming. Is this an AI compilation or real?” posed another.

“They’re lying to you to get you to come lose your money,” concluded another.
