- Three Ohio Lottery wins have been sold at the same Giant Eagle since April
- The wins were worth $20,000, $150,000, and $1 million
- The grocery store will likely continue to see increased lottery sales
Ohio Lottery players are finding an overwhelming abundance of luck at a Giant Eagle grocery store in the northeast part of the Buckeye State.

This week, the Ohio Lottery reported that a trip to the grocery store for one lucky lottery player turned into a life-altering occasion. The person, who wished to remain anonymous, purchased a $50 VIP Millions scratch-off and claimed the game’s top prize of $1,000,000.
Lottery officials said the winner opted for the one-time cash option of $500,000 instead of receiving the full $1 million paid out over 25 years through annual installments of $40,000. After federal and state taxes, the windfall amounted to approximately $360,000.
The lucky play was purchased at the Giant Eagle grocery store at 2032 E. Lincoln Way in Massillon. The Giant Eagle store received a $10,000 commission for selling the winning VIP Millions ticket.
Giant Eagle Delivers Giant Lottery Wins
This week’s Ohio Lottery VIP Millions win was the third major lottery win in recent months at the very same Giant Eagle store.
Only a week earlier, the Ohio Lottery said a player who purchased a $5 Monopoly Bonus Spectacular 25x scratcher hit the top prize of $150,000. The lucky play was purchased at the Giant Eagle at 2032 E. Lincoln Way in Massillon.
The lucky customer, who also wished to remain anonymous, received approximately $108,000 after federal and state taxes. The Giant Eagle received a $1,500 sales bonus.
The two July hits at the Giant Eagle Massillon came a little more than three months after a $50 VIP Millions scratch-off that was sold at the grocery store hit for $20,000. The winner’s net take after taxes came to roughly $14,400.
Superstition in Play
While the exact odds of each prize being hit vary and are ultimately dependent on the number of tickets sold and the number of prizes claimed, players at the Massillon Giant Eagle have been extraordinarily lucky in 2025.
When lottery retailers sell a major win, they typically see an increase in sales, as many players believe in superstition and that a vendor’s machine is hot, not unlike a slot player in a casino. Sales increases are especially true when a retailer sells a winning Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot.
It’s why lottery retailers often advertise being the location where a major winning lottery ticket was sold. Lottery retailers benefit not only from bonuses for selling jackpots and big wins but also from increased post-win sales, which provide richer commissions.
As for whether a lottery vendor can truly be “hot,” that thinking is only a fallacy, so says Dr. Mark Glickman of Harvard University. However, Glickman, a senior lecturer on statistics, says playing at a lottery retailer where a major win was recently sold “also doesn’t give you any disadvantages.”
Tonight’s Mega Millions drawing is $80 million. Tomorrow’s Powerball jackpot is $234 million. It’s a safe bet that the Giant Eagle in Massillon is selling many tickets today and tomorrow.
