Derek Jeter is the newest teammate of BetMGM, a leading iGaming and sportsbook operator based in the five-time World Series champion’s native New Jersey.

On Monday, the digital gaming entity jointly owned by MGM Resorts International and Entain announced the Baseball Hall of Fame member as its latest brand ambassador. Jeter joins an array of celebrities and athletes in the BetMGM ambassadorship, including Jamie Foxx, Kevin Garnett, and Wayne Gretzky.
BetMGM’s commitment to excellence and overall approach help them stand out as an innovator in their space,” Jeter said on the pact. “They have worked hard to create a real community in their audience. I look forward to working with their team to build connections within their base of players and support the company’s continued growth.”
In the role, Jeter will lend his likeness to an online slot game on the BetMGM platform. Currently, no legal iGaming operation has an interactive slot featuring a current or former MLB ballplayer. Today, Jeter owns a 4% stake in the Miami Marlins.
BetMGM Brand Ambassadors
Though the financial terms of the sponsorship weren’t made public, BetMGM is seemingly paying Jeter, who spent his entire 20-year career with the New York Yankees, a handsome amount to promote its gaming operations.
The online casino and sportsbook says Jeter will appear in its national advertising campaigns, make appearances at exclusive VIP events, and “play a key role in promoting BetMGM’s responsible gambling initiatives in both the United States and Canada.” Saying “The Captain” has near-universal appeal among sports fans, Jeter will additionally star in a commercial series called “Legendary Plays” that will debut on Tuesday, July 15.
“As BetMGM’s brand continues to evolve, we could not think of a better baseball ambassador to add to our Mount Rushmore of legendary athletes than Derek Jeter,” added Casey Hurbis, BetMGM’s chief marketing officer.
Jeter batted .310 during his two decades in the big leagues. He amassed 3,465 hits, 260 home runs, and 1,311 runs batted in.
A 14-time All-Star and the 2000 World Series MVP, Jeter’s 3,465 hits rank sixth all-time behind Pete Rose (4,256), Ty Cobb (4,189), Hank Aaron (3,771), Stan Musial (3,630), and Tris Speaker (3,514).
Do Celebrity Endorsements Matter?
While some might not think seeing a familiar face on an online casino or sportsbook means much, for many consumers, a celebrity endorsement delivers a sense of trust to the operation. With Jeter’s height of popularity coming in the 1990s and early 2000s, the shortstop could help BetMGM lure in older Millennials and Generation X bettors.
Throughout and after his career, Jeter’s reputation has been overwhelmingly positive, even among many Mets fans. With online gambling continuing to evolve, and countless websites and apps promoting slots, table games, and sports wagering, BetMGM is betting on Jeter helping the platform stand out in the crowded space.
The BetMGM Sportsbook is live in Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, Washington, DC, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Its iGaming platform operates in Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
