Fremont Street Experience’s New Year’s Eve Lineup Features Copious Underwhelm

Fremont Street Experience (FSE) has named its New Year’s Eve talent lineup and we are experiencing a distinct sense of “Somebody’s trying to save money this year.”

This year’s performers include Robin Thicke (the date-rape song one), CeeLo Green (the T-Rex arms one), Common Kings (no idea), Chingy (who these), Pertinence (people are) and Sammy Johnson (srsly).

Tickets to the best NYE party in Las Vegas cost $60. Yes, it’s still the best NYE party in Vegas. Who’s performing has no impact on ticket sales. We know, we worked there for six years in digital marketing.

NYE on Fremont is wild, and not just because it features 10,000 drunk people singing the wrong lyrics to popular songs in unison.

Also irrelevant to ticket sales? Pricing. FSE sells roughly the same number of tickets (10,000 to 12,000) every year, no matter what. One year, they did just DJs, same ticket sales. They bumped up the ticket price, same ticket sales.

One year, we did a naked strip tease on the venue’s 3rd Street stage, same ticket sales.

Yep, it’s not about the ticket price (about the cost of two NYE cocktails on the Las Vegas Strip), it’s about the vibe. The energy. The people. The dranks. The casinos just feet away if it’s cold on the street.

Oh, and it’s all about the Mayor of Las Vegas showing up and talking about economic development opportunities. Just kidding. Nobody cares if the mayor’s there, unless they are a Goodman, which they no longer are, sadly.

The best part of Fremont Street Experience’s entertainment lineup for New Year’s Eve is it contains zero percent Zowie Bowie.

Here’s the schedule for the awesome entertainment.

3rd Street Stage

(between The D and Four Queens, despite the fact you should never get between The D and four queens)
7:00 p.m.: Live DJ
9:15 p.m.: CeeLo Green
11:30 p.m.: Robin Thicke

1st Street Stage

(across from the Vegas Vic sign which currently resembles a Fremont Street tweaker due to neglect)
7:00 p.m.: Live DJ
9:00 p.m.: Sammy Johnson
11:30 p.m.: Common Kings

Main Street Stage

(closest to Plaza, a mention that will irritate our friends at FSE because Plaza isn’t a member casino of FSE, despite the fact Plaza pays for live fireworks again this year which benefits the members of FSE, long story)
7:00 p.m.: Live DJ
9:00 p.m.: Pertinence
11:00 p.m.: Chingy

While the mid lineup is unlikely to hurt ticket sales much, this year is going to put that pattern to the test.

Las Vegas visitation is off significantly this year, and as The Strip goes, so goes Fremont Street Experience.

How do you mitigate the risk of losing a lot of money for a NYE party? Lower the cost of talent.

If you thought we were going to write this entire story without mentioning the name of our high school band, you are sadly mistaken. Related: We never figured out Kevin’s pronoun.

Don’t worry, though, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) is going to predict 840,685 visitors to Las Vegas for New Year’s Eve. Because made-up numbers, especially when they’re super specific, give everyone good feelings! (See also projections for 33,000 A’s tickets sold per game, 80 games a year, in a ballpark that isn’t funded. The LVCVA is hilarious.)

Off the hook for this year’s FSE lineup is President and CEO Andrew Simon, who is stepping down. You would know this if you read our blog thoroughly. Ahem. The NYE lineup isn’t exactly a mic drop for Simon as he departs FSE, but as we mentioned in our story about his time at FSE, safe and pragmatic isn’t necessarily a bad thing when compared to other possible scenarios (like failed zombie attractions).

You’d think FSE would be pissed at us for saying its NYE entertainment lineup sucks, but not true. That’s because we’re including a link, which will help with their site traffic and SEO from an authority site (Domain Ranking of 81) in the gaming space with 2.3 million backlinks.

For $60, you know we’ll be at FSE for NYE. We’ll be the one “Gettin’ Chingy wit it,” whoever that might actually be.
